Eye contact! Did you know that looking a dog in the eye is taken as confrontational behavior to a dog that doesn’t know you?? Let that sink in for a sec. We as humans see a dog and go right up in its face and make baby noises. That would make me uncomfortable as a human but especially as a dog that does not speak your language. Did you ever notice how when dogs meet,they sniff butts? Because that is the handshake… so the best way for you to meet a dog? Ignore it!! Yessss ignore the dog so they can approach you and sniff you. Dogs learn by smell. Not sight,not sound first but by smell. This girl here,Charlie-reminded me so much of my first dog (she was a rescue) and how she really was the one that started me on my direction of helping dogs and specifically being able to help rescue dogs.
