Meet our longest stay senior resident Sal! ❤️
This lovely boy is 15 years old and we can hardly believe it. He is affectionate and loving, he gives the best head nudges and loves to be a lap cat. As much as we love spending time with him while he’s here, this kind kitty has waited too long for his new family to come through our doors. He has lived with cats before and would most likely do well with calm dogs. If you have space in your heart and home for a senior love bug, please call 388-1100 or email Emily at [email protected] We have open adoption hours Tuesday through Saturday 9-3.
Please share for Sal! ❤️

WE'RE ORGANIZING! Not cats ... medications in our vet tech room!

We could use a little help with purchases to make this all work out the way we'd like it to. There are 4 spice racks on Amazon we'd love to have help in purchasing (2 each of 2 sizes) We'll paste the links in the comments for your consideration. Thank you, friends!

(Please comment under the link if you purchased one so we don't end up with more than necessary!).

It’s a Wabbit Wednesday!! 🐇😋 We’ve just turned 3 months old, and life is pretty sweet here at the shelter. We get daily intake of veggies now—delicious, crunchy greens that we nibble on with excitement. 🤩🥬 Every day, we stretch, hop around, and explore, but something’s missing.
We see others leave, getting scooped up in warm arms, heading off to soft, cozy homes with families who love them. 💓🏡 And we wonder... when will it be our turn? We’re doing our best to be brave, to show our sweetest sides, but sometimes, late at night, we can’t help but feel a little lonely. 🥺
Our perfect forever homes are out there somewhere, we just know it. Could it be yours?

It's Alumni Sunday and today we are checking in on Minnie (formerly Tarte), adopted in June. Her family writes, "It was one of the best decisions we could have made for her and for our boy, Harvey, who needed a friend. We renamed her Minnie because, compared to Harvey, she is so very tiny! It took no time at all for all of us to settle in and now she pretty much runs the roost (including Harvey). She loves running around with her favorite blue mouse, loves her water mat, and loves raising a ruckus with Harvey. You have an excellent facility and amazing staff! Thank you for all that you do!"

If you'd like us to feature YOUR Homeward Bound adoptee in a future Alumni Sunday post, please send your favorite photos and an update to [email protected].

Hey there, I’m Dixie, and if you’re looking for a playful, sweet girl with a wiggly butt and a smile that can light up your day, I’m your dog! I was found in a ditch in Tennessee with my buddy Thor when I was just a year old. Life hasn’t always been easy, but that doesn’t stop me from showing off my happy dance when I see you!
I’m full of love and energy, and I’ve lived with cats. I could also live with older kids who know how to give a dog her space when she needs it. I really love to play and roll in the soft grass, and I’d be the perfect companion to join you for walks or just cuddle up on the couch.
The shelter life? It can be stressful for us doggos! I’d much rather be in a home where I can relax and show you how awesome I can be! Will you be my forever family? Fill out an adoption form here!: https://www.homewardboundanimals.org/animals-adoption/how-to-adopt/dogpuppy-adoption-questionnaire/ Or contact Ylva! Call/text 802 549 5326 or by email [email protected].
Let’s help find Dixie her perfect home sweet home!🏡

We will never forget the heroes of 9/11, all of them.

"The working dogs deployed in the wake of 9/11 were remarkable. Over 300 specially trained dogs arrived at Ground Zero, each with a critical role—whether in search and rescue, police work or providing emotional support. These dogs embodied courage, sifting through dangerous rubble, and helping to locate survivors and remains." - Working Dog Magazine

It's Alumni Sunday and today we have a great update on Elsa and Anna, adopted in July 2023! Their family shares, "Elsa is a complete cuddle bug, and is the first to wake you up with her purring every morning-but does not enjoy being picked up! Anna on the other hand will allow you to pick her up and play with her as long as you are willing. Elsa and Anna are very bonded, from the cat tree at homeward bound where we first spotted them they have been inseparable, they stalk, surprise, chase, tackle and love each other constantly. Elsa has learned to play FETCH on our stairs with her 6-year-old human who tosses the bell-ball down and happily waits for Elsa to bring it back up to her. Anna LOVES to tunnel under blankets and sleep the day away. Seeing the cat's bond with each other and us has been wonderful, and we look forward to many more years with these two Homeward Bound Alumni!"

If you'd like us to feature YOUR Homeward Bound adoptee in a future Alumni Sunday post, please send your update and photos to [email protected].

🌟 Meet Snoopy, the Chatty Trickster! 🌟
Hey there, I’m Snoopy! I'm the talkative, treat-loving kitty in Community Room 2 who’s ready to fill your home with love, laughter, and maybe a little bit of magic.
A little about me: I was found by the river, caring for my three little ones in a cozy box. Those days were tough, but we made it through, and now my kittens have all found their forever homes. It's my turn to find mine!
I’m two years young, with a love for food that rivals even the most dedicated foodies. Got treats? You’ll have my full attention. I’ll do just about anything for a tasty morsel—I would be a purrrfect trick kitty! 🪄🎩
Are you looking for a companion who’ll keep you on your toes and shower you with love? If so, I’m your girl. Come meet me and let’s see if we’re a match made in kitty heaven!

It's Alumni Sunday and we have a heartwarming update on Willow and a strong plug for adopting senior cats! Willow's mom writes, "I adopted Willow in October of 2022. She was eight, and had been in a hoarding situation before she was rescued by Homeward Bound. For the first year, although she was sweet and affectionate to me, she still seemed shut down. She slept under my bed, and never got on any furniture except to my lap. After a year, she started to sleep on my bed. She gets on chairs. And a few weeks ago she started, for the first time, to play with toys! Adopt the seniors. It is hugely rewarding."

It's Alumni Sunday and today we've got a wonderful update on Trouble, renamed Simba! His family writes, "Simba has been doing very well. He is such a great kitty and companion and is loving his life as the only fur baby that gets all of the attention. He follows us around, and has an amazing personality with his little “confident strut” as I call it. Santa even came for him with his own huge cat tree. We love him so much and thank you guys for all you have done for us. You made our holidays and new year extremely special."
