Winter Fun for Parrots: During your winter walks, look for non-toxic pinecones to use as parrot toys! Pick up pinecones that are freshly dropped. Soak pinecones in a solution of vinegar (1 cup) and water (1 gallon) for 10-15 minutes. Air dry the pinecones for 24 hours, then bake them on a foil or parchment lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes at 225F. Pinecones can be offered as a foot toy, incorporated into hanging toys, or used as food enrichment by stuffing them with seeds, small nuts, and dried fruit.
