The little brown bat can be a big issue:

Little brown bats are important for human health and the environment. They help keep populations of forest pests under control and eat mosquitoes, which can spread illnesses. They also help reduce the need for pesticides by eating insects that are destructive to crops and forests.

But:
The Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC) is warning the Minneapolis community to be aware of bats and the risk of rabies that comes with them. MACC has received multiple reports of bats in homes every day, with some of them testing positive for rabies.

Minneapolis, Minnesota's rabies vaccination ordinance for dogs and cats includes the following requirements:

Rabies vaccination
Dogs and cats over four months old must be vaccinated against rabies and have a current certificate of immunization on file.

Great information for your feline friends 🐈

Cats are considered older at 12 to 14 years of age and there are many simple things owners can do to make sure their aging cats remain healthy and happy. Consider providing easy access to basic needs for your cat, such as switching to a litter box with lower sides, and placing litter boxes and water bowls on each floor of your house if your cat struggles with stairs. If your senior cat can no longer jump up to their favorite windowsill or sofa, you may want to create steps or a ramp for them. Older cats often need additional help with grooming, you may need to help them with their daily beauty rituals. Help your cat enjoy their golden years in honor of !

Happy National Cat Day

Although every day is Cat Day here at the Cornell Feline Health Center, today is National Cat Day! The day is intended to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cats in their life and honor the unconditional love and friendship our kitties show us every day. It is also a day to help recognize the number of cats in shelters looking for their forever home.

March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day

Cats - the kings and queens of cuteness, dominance, and independence. Even if we don't want to admit it, they often rule our lives.

In ancient Egypt, cats were revered as gods, complete with cult worship and huge celebrations. They were held in higher regard than men, and harming a cat was an act punishable by death. A theory remains that the ancient Egyptians were the pioneers in domesticating the cat and the discovery of ancient hieroglyphics show that cats shared a special place in society.

The Chinese weren’t immune to the cat's spell either. Various historic paintings depict cats as the companion of elegant royals. According to records from the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), one emperor nicknamed his favorite cat β€œDragon,” and after its passing, buried it in a golden coffin.

While many of us are sure to honor our cats every day, today, on "Respect Your Cat Day," let's be sure to give your cats the respect they deserve because you never know if you might be living with the descendant of a royal. πŸ‘‘πŸ˜Έ
