Who we are
We are a local horse club that was founded over 80 years ago, it started out as a group of horse loving individuals, along with their friends and families, that would gather together for trail rides (hence the name). Many things have changed overtime and we have evolved into so much more, while maintaining our core values of friendship, welcoming to all and of course the love of horse
s. This club has seen generations of families over the years and continues to welcome new memberships every year. We are a non profit, volunteer run club and facility that takes a lot of dedication. With all the growth and changes that continue to occur, expenses and repairs to keep the facility safe and applicable grow with them. What we do
Some of our events that occur throughout each season include 4H clinic days, weekly wednesday fun nights, NBHA sanctioned barrel races, Extreme Obstacle Challenge, Ranch Horse Competition and various horse clinics. Goals
We strive to maintain a fun and safe atmosphere for our members and spectators to enjoy. We also hope to add some new and different events to our agenda, such as rodeos and ropings. We have some amazing sponsors and support from our community and we would like to invite you to be one of those sponsors to allow this long time staple in our horse community to continue to evolve.
We had a couple clinic participants in the 10 am time block run into a scheduling conflict : so we have limited slots available in all three blocks right now.
Sunday is going to be an absolute blast - the stick horse competition is back by popular demand, and we have added an in hand class this year! This course is going to be our best yet, with added money and prizes to match !
Tonight will be our last fun night of the season, and we will not be playing a game. Everyone wants to get home and tuck kids into bed for school tomorrow : *boo, hiss*. That having been said, we would really appreciate everyone grabbing a trash can and zipping it over to the dumpster afterwards, so we can get locked up quickly.
Becky will have the cookshack stocked with mixed berry kuchen bars, banana chocolate chip bars, cookie dough, scotcheroos, and ice cream sundaes !!

The 2024 MTR Ranch Horse Versatility show is in the books! We started off foggy and soggy, but the sun eventually came out, and we had ourselves a gorgeous day in the arena with no dust.
We had a really great group of open and youth riders that competed in ranch trail, reining, ranch riding, and even a super fun stick horse competition. We were thrilled to give away almost FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS in cash and prizes!! đ
A special thanks go out to Becky in the cook shack, Jen Dark Designs, our judge Randy Hanson, all of our sponsors, (a separate post detailing them, to come) and our limited but very very appreciated volunteers. Thanks for running gates, setting patterns, resetting obstacles, manning the mic, and running the office. Also thanks to all the contestants for venturing out into the pea soup to show up and make the show a success - you guys rocked it!

A penalty zero indicates a disqualification. A circled score is an âoff patternâ, and a circled score with a tiny âx2â above it is a double OP. Regardless of the final score, a double OP placed below any single OP scores, in their respective chronological order. The maneuver where the OP occurred is also circled, so you can tell where the fault occurred.

Jen at Too Dark Designs has generously offered to attend our ranch horse versatility show on Saturday, and screen print t-shirts to order. Not only will she have a wide variety of colors and sizes to choose from, she has offered to donate 10% of all proceeds back to MTR! We are excited to have her at the show, and get some t shirts with our logo out there !
*edit* Our volunteers have had a couple schedule changes, and we are now looking for somebody to run the grill tonight. If you can flip some burgers, let us know !
We are on a fundraising mission, to make sure we have enough doll hairs to make our RHV and LCEOC shows a success, this fall. We have acquired the appropriate permits to have 50/50 raffles for the remaining game nights, as well as at both those shows. So if youâre feeling lucky or maybe your palm gives a little itch today : make a beeline for the lovely Mary Aberle. She looks like a 5 foot, dark-haired Vanna White, ya canât miss her ! Mary will have the tickets on her, and we will plan to sell right up until we draw after poles.
Memories of Home by Becky has root beer and orange floats, scotcheroos, puppy chow, almond bark puffy corn, and ice cream sundaes all ready for game night this week. Bring your sweet tooth and sample them all!

We have an updated volunteer list posted in the cook shack for the versatility show on the 17th, with specific time blocks. If youâre able to join us and pitch in for a couple hours, hop in the shack and jot your name down. :)
Come join us on Saturday, August 17th for our annual Ranch Horse Versatility competition ! We have added money in each class and prizes for high point awards in both open and youth divisions. Today is barn cleaning day at the North Dakota state fair ! Extra shovels and brooms canât hurt, so grab some tools if you can. Rustle up some extra helpers and meet us in the poultry barn at 6:30 tonight. The more help we have, the smoother the project will go. Looking forward to tidying up the barns and checking a fundraising box so we can have fun events at our arena this fall. See you all tonight !
Tomorrow is parade day, who is ready to march broadway and Burdick all the way to the ND State Fairgrounds ?! Tia Nesson has several of these cute messenger bags : I know we have been told not to throw candy, but nobody said you couldnât walk your horse up to someone and hand them some candy! Or maybe you just want to keep a cold water with you and look the part ! Xtra! Xtra! ND Hot News is the theme, to channel your inner 1920s newsboy look and load your horses up !
We can unload and tack up behind the Ranger Lounge on Broadway, but remember you need a driver to move your rig by the start of the fair. Vehicles can be taken to the east side of the fairgrounds over in the Wilbur Ellis lot. Line up time is 8:30 am and we are entry number 61. Take lots of cute pictures and post them to our page with a tag : anyone not able to attend will love to see our group! Extra p**p scoopers and walkers are surely welcome!
Tia Nesson is getting festive for the state fair parade on Saturday! Sheâs on a mission to get messenger bags with our logo on them, and can order suspenders for $9 and hats for $15 if placed by 2 pm today. If you want to join in the Xtra Xtra! fun, comment and let us know !
MTR family and friends : please remember to block off time to help us with a *major fundraiser* one week from today. July 22 is the day we clean the poultry and expo barns out. Many hands make light work - and we appreciate being able to chip in and knock the work out together. It might be uncomfortably warm and sweaty, but thereâs always good natured ribbing and joking going on - we have fun even when weâre working hard !!!
You surely do not need to be a member to pitch in - encourage a friend to join in our efforts, the night will go all the faster. :)

Take note on the NWSCA show bill, between reining and barrels is the youth and open âfun eventâ. Who knows fun like Minot Trail Riders ?! Teamwork makes the dream work ! The TR grounds got fancied up for this weekendâs horse show, today. Is this a great looking crew or what ?! Of all our members, we might just have the smallest and the tallest on the same sub committee!! đ We thank you for your help equally, no matter how tall any of you are. ;)
We are still looking for volunteers to help in the cookshack and run the gate at various times on Saturday. If you can help out, it will surely make the show run smoother.

Becky had a long day in the kitchen, prepping Oreo cookie salad, Cup-O-Cookies (Molasses, snickerdoodle, birthday cake) and the favorite of every true midwesterner : the scotcheroo!
We need a couple last minute volunteers to float spots around the ground tomorrow - setting patterns and working the cookshack : shout if you can fill in!
Our game is Egg and Spoon. The Twilight Aviary has a couple dozen on hand, but we were hoping to make a delicious batch of egg salad for the horse show on Sat. If you have a fluffy butt hut at your house, bring your extra eggs! đ
Our surprise award this week is a saddle sack. Who knows what silly skill it will be awarded to : bring your best moves ! (But letâs keep our bridles on, right Karver ?! ;) )

Make sure to keep this Saturday, July 13th, open on your calendars - thatâs the day MTR is hosting our NW horse show ! We are pleased to announce we will running not just the full NW show bill, but also offering the extra classes required to complete a full 4-H showbill. This will be one of the last 4-H qualifiers before the state fair hits us, so if you have kiddos looking to qualify, make sure you are prepared with appropriate dress code . Helmets , long sleeved white shirts with 4-H chevrons will be required. Show time is 9 am, patterns will be posted no later than 8 am. Please see the attached rulebook for any questions, and message the page or a board member if you canât find your answer. We are all set up to have a really fun day!

Itâs time to get ready for our entry in the NDSF parade! This yearâs theme is âXtra!! Xtra!! North Dakota Hot News!â
The parade will be on Saturday, July 20th. We are entry #61 and our line up time is 8:30 am. We can park and unload behind the Ranger Lounge, but please note that all vehicles need to be moved by the start of the parade.
We also need a little vehicle with a trailer on and some p**p scoopers to accompany us. We appreciate any volunteerism towards clean up duty !
If anyone would like to carry the MTR flag, we will make sure it gets to the Ranger parking lot also. đ

Okay, Becky has locked her treats in for tomorrow. We will have birthday cake edible cookie dough and frosted chocolate chip banana bars up for grabs, in addition to her regular preserved goodies. Bring your horses , your kids/family, and your sweet tooth !
