In-Hand Showmanship (I was first to go and went on the wrong side of cone A 😭)
A little practice before the big day!
Ignore my resting b*tch face, I sware I'm happy 😂
Day 148
This horse is talented 👌 look at that hoof work! It was was a beautiful day to work with Spurlee, the weather was perfect.
Tonight's session started with a basic lunging warm-up, then trotted a series of ground poles, and ended the exercise by trotting over 5 raised poles.
Morning sessions in pajamas to beat the heat 🥵
Spurlee sure is a beautiful mover! Y'all might see her in the W/T show pen next year competing in HUS and WP!
Carol Hodges you got yourself a beautiful little mare 😍 I can't wait to see what next year brings.
Spurlee isn't scared of the tornado siren, pool noodles or the tarp.
Day 92
Spurlee walked through the car wash!
I'm not sure what the obstacles are going to be like at the next show in August but I'm trying to prepare Spurlee as much as I can. We build the cowboy curtain and the car wash last weekend. Spurlee still needs work walking over the tarp and threw the curtain. It's been so hot an humid lately that we have had to put off training.
The love Marge has for Zoey ❤️ Zoey called Marge and she walked right to Zoey! Marge is the best donkey in the world 🌎
Have I ever told you how lazy Spurlee is? I pull her out of the feild saddle her up then let her walk around before I get on. Once I'm on I ask her to give her head left and right, back a few steps, walk and stop. Then I move on to asking her to trot off when I ask, stopping and backing. Once I have done that both ways I moved on to the canter. When I kiss to her she goes into a extended trot and will not transition to a canter. So not only do I have ballpoint spurs on I had to have my husband stand in the middle of the round pen with the flag to encourage her to canter a few steps 🙄 Once she canter I released all pressure and allowed her to come to a walk. Then I'd repeat, 2x each way. Once that was done I got off and cooled her down by doing in hand stuff.
Spurlee will get tomorrow off and we'll try again Friday.
Waking up to 1 less horse this morning was rough 😪 but the horses still need to be fed and worked.
Day 85
Spurlee is very lazy 😴 and I had to put on ball point spurs and use the flag to encourage her to move up to a trot. I'm pretty impressed with her stop and back as I have only rode her a handful of times and still was the 1st time I actually made her work.
⚠️ Watch at your own risk⚠️
I received a phone call from my father in-law just after 4pm, saying Louella wasn't doing well. I rushed home from work to find her in this state. After making several phone calls to multiple vets I was finally able to reach one and they told me she needed to be put down. After talking to the vet I walked out to check on her and she had passed on her own. We will never know what caused her to end up this way, she was perfectly fine this morning.
My heart is broken 💔 she was just starting to come around and trust me.
RIP Louella I tried to do all I could do to save you, but I was too late 😔
