🐾 We'd like to say thank you 🙏🏽 to Dr. Sarah Dunnigan Demchak and her husband Adam, for gathering up so many resources and supplies, and taking them on the first trip to Western NC. They will be bringing a trailer full and stopping by quite a few shelters and rescues, so please keep them in your thoughts. Thank you 😺 to Beaufort Community Cat Project for their impactful collection and donation of food, supplies, and cases of water! 🐾 Our clients and staff have been so amazing with contributions, and that of course goes without saying! 💙 We hope everyone will continue sharing when there is a need, donate if you can, and please consider fostering or adopting a local, or not so local pet in need.💚 Thank you!

Right now, our hearts and paws are with our Western NC communities during this devastating time. We know the need for help is great! The only way to get aid in and help out is by air. Please SHARE to get the immediate word out, consider donating to one of these organizations, or open your home to help foster an animal from Asheville! Forsyth Humane Society Asheville Humane Society BISSELL Pet Foundation Animal Incident Management will be working together on two immediate trips that include flying in supplies and flying OUT shelter pets. They will be accepting supplies for humans and pets up to 10am tomorrow at FHS for their first shipment in. Locally, Petdocks will act as a drop off point for any unopened bags/cans of food (expired is ok), cat litter, newspaper, and water (distilled is ok). We are hopeful to link up with other local organizations/vet hospitals interested in doing the same so to help these communities affected in the short and long term. Again, our thoughts are with all our neighbors to the west, big and small 💚🐾💙

We have some awesome cats and dogs looking for their forever home, currently housed here at PetDocks Veterinary Hospital. As much as we love and care for them, they deserve a real home with all that comes with it! Friends, family, walks on the beach or maybe just a nice window to watch birds and catnap the day away. If you would like to visit any of our awesome adoptions, just stop on by or give us a call!

Interesting fact about our Dr. Todd🐾. Now, he has never been one to brag, but that's what we're here for! Did you know he got to skip out on getting his bachelor's degree? He achieved a PERFECT 💯 SCORE on his Veterinary College Admission Test, aka the VCAT exam! He then went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine at the age of 23! Clients will say his ability to think, not only with his mind, but with his heart, is what set him apart from the rest. Staff will say his ability to do medical math conversations without a calculator is what made him indispensable 😸 He's been our very own brilliant mind for the past 27 years, and we as clients, patients, staff and associates, know just how lucky we are.

Again, please join us tomorrow at PetDocks Veterinary Hospital, at your leisure, for a drop in celebration from 1pm to 5pm to say farewell to Dr. Todd Worrell.

The office will be closed for business from 12pm to 5:30pm to celebrate, however boarding and any in patient discharges will still be allowed. Any family pet emergencies will be asked to go to Swansboro Animal Hospital and Trauma at 130 Phillips Loop Rd, Swansboro, NC 28584

As we near Dr. Worrell's retirement 😞, we would like to highlight some of his accomplishments and contributions to not only PetDocks Veterinary Hospital, but to Carteret County as well. Did you know throughout his 27 years of practice, with the help of local voucher programs, he has spayed and neutered, at NO COST to the residents of Carteret County, over THIRTEEN THOUSAND cats and dogs🙀! He has always considered it his civic duty as a veterinarian in this county and we can't thank him enough for his service! Don't forget, we are having a drop in party for him this Wed. Feb 7th from 1pm-5pm. 🐾 Hope to see you there!! 🥳

Today's photo is a fully restored 1927 photograph of
Grace Olive Wiley (1883–1948).

Grace Olive Wiley, once fearful of snakes, transformed into the celebrated "Snake Woman" due to a fateful encounter with a rattlesnake while working at the Minneapolis Museum of Natural History in the 1920s. The story goes a rattlesnake gently crawled across Grace’s foot, and suddenly her thoughts changed from fear to wanting to understand these animals. Convinced that snakes could be tamed with patience and gentle acclimation to touch, she became the first person to breed rattlesnakes in captivity successfully. Her handling methods at the Minneapolis Museum of Natural History led to conflicts with museum administrators, prompting her departure to the Brookfield Zoo outside Chicago, where Wiley was a pioneer in naturalistic reptile displays. Subsequently, in 1937, she established a private reptile zoo in Long Beach, California, and provided snakes for classic films like “Moon Over Burma”, “The Jungle Book”, and several of the “Tarzan” feature films in the 1940s. In 1948, she was fatally bitten by an Indian cobra while handling it for a photograph. Her legacy lives on through the naming of Grace Park in Long Beach in her honor.
