Mason doing more work on directional cueing for going out . This class is specifically for getting Newfies trained and prepared for water rescue work and titling however this class is so beneficial on so many other levels. When doing set work being able to send your dog out and away from you to a “mark “ for example is extremely important . Distance training is also very beneficial for set work and any type of off leash work.

We are so proud of this project and grateful to have been a part of it . I must say that a very valuable lesson that I learned from “set work” with my Newfie is that he works best for ME! Unfortunately, on a few occasions, I handed him off to other set trainers and I went behind the scenes . I watched him the whole time . But he began to anticipate me “leaving “. As a trainer , I had to rise to the occasion and realize his strengths and weaknesses. Mason worked best when I worked him , when I gave him cues and commands off camera . So this is where I began to focus on his training. Distance work and commands while incorporating directional cueing and movements. It became imperative that he learned it was ok to move “away” from me in his cueing and training . This type of training also helped to build Masons confidence as he became more independent. It’s very important to always be your dogs best advocate and truly set them up for success.

The Newfies and I took a break from social media and our page. Like many of you, we have dealt with the pandemic , Covid pneumonia, and many other issues that have occurred over the last year in our world today. I also suffered the loss of my Dad about 3 months ago. Losing a parent is a devastating loss and one that takes time to heal from. The Newfies and I spend time in the rural country and we also spend a lot of our time at the beach . As some you may know , Mason was part of a talent group as an animal actor . We did a few projects that we were so honored to do and so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of. I am a firm believer that sometimes change is good!
Many times it’s through change that we challenge ourselves to become better and find our own meaning of success, which for us is authenticity, inner peace and happiness. This page is truly dedicated to my life with my amazing Newfies , Mason and Memphis, that I get the pleasure of sharing each and every day with . I became a trick dog instructor and an animal actor evaluator through DMWYD ( Do More with Your Dog) because it truly inspired me as a trainer . My oldest Newfie Mason , progressed and responded in such a positive way when I started teaching him tricks . I became a different trainer when we started trick training , I was having fun !!
I was laughing and communicating with my dog in such a positive way and we both loved it ! We hope that you enjoy our journey of love , training ,adventures, memories and education . This page only exists for positive and uplifting ideas and behaviors. Everyone is welcome. We truly want our page to be inspirational and helpful to others .

Welcome to Just A Girl and Her Newfie. This website is dedicated to my gorgeous gray Newfie, Mason. He’s an extremely well-trained dog that I can teach new commands in no time. As such, he makes an excellent dog actor. Whether you need to shoot a commercial or an entire movie, Mason has the talent and the patience to get the job done!

Mason is far from a beginner-level dog actor. Rather, he has numerous credits to his name. We’ve done commercials, TV shows, and more. He’s an extremely obedient dog that wants nothing more than to make you happy!

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more talented dog actor out there than Mason!
