Lucy is helping us wish everyone a happy 4th of July🇺🇸💥
🔴⚪️🔵we will be closed on Thursday, July 4th in observation of the holiday🔴⚪️🔵
With this loud, crazy holiday in just a few days, we want to remind everyone to call now for sedatives if needed! We do require a 24-48 hour notice for medication refills, so today is the ideal day to call to ensure you have your pet’s medications before Thursday!

Please take extra precautions this week and next to keep your pets safe and secure during fireworks.
Here are a few tips:
• Keep your pets indoors as much as possible with calming music/their favorite TV show on to help distract them from the noises
• Take your dogs out on a leash (with a well fitted harness/collar) or into a very secure fence.
• Leave your pets at home when you go watch fireworks (they would much rather nap on the couch than be stressed by the loud noises and people)
• If you find a lost pet, take them to your nearest veterinary clinic, animal control facility, or shelter to have them scanned for a microchip

Y’all be safe and enjoy the holiday!🎆

Aside from being a legal requirement, this is why we require ALL of our patients to have an up to date rabies vaccination (unless there is a true underlying medical reason to not vaccinate).
Rabies is a very real, very scary risk. It is much more common than people seem to think. It is easily spread and almost always lethal.
If you think your pet may have been exposed to a potential rabid animal, it is always best to contact animal control and then your vet as soon as possible. If you are bitten by a stray or wild animal, please seek medical care IMMEDIATELY.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) has confirmed a case of rabies in a bison from Rutherford County, marking a rare occurrence of the disease in local livestock. The animal was euthanized last week after displaying severe symptoms including lethargy, weakness, heavy breathing, and a high fever. Upon necropsy at the C.E. Kord Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory and comprehensive testing from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), it was verified the bison was infected with rabies.

Subsequent investigations have suggested that the infection was likely the result of exposure to wildlife. At this stage, no other animals have been reported as showing similar symptoms, indicating that this is an isolated case.

Rabies is preventable through vaccination, but once symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal. Suggested steps to protect livestock against rabies include:
- Vaccination: Ensure all pets and livestock are up-to-date with their rabies vaccinations. Consult with a veterinarian about the best vaccination strategy for your animals.
- Limit Wildlife Interaction: Minimize the chances of livestock coming into contact with wild animals. Secure food sources and remove attractants that may bring wildlife onto your property.
- Monitoring: Keep a close watch on your animals for any signs of illness or unusual behavior and report them to a veterinarian immediately.

TDA and TDH are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

We had the first round of our biggest RHDV2 vaccine clinic of the year last week🥳
We vaccinated 37 bunnies on Thursday🐰🥹Unfortunately, we completely forgot about the chalk board until the afternoon appointments started😵‍💫 we’re so sorry if you missed it, but if you want a picture with it, let us know and we can make it happen!
Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease is 100% fatal if contracted, and it is also extremely contagious to other buns. Vaccinate your bunny to help keep everyone safe!
The date for the booster/ next annual is Thursday, May 16th. If your rabbit still needs their annual vaccine this spring, call us to prepay and schedule!

Appreciation post round 3🤗
Today is all about Tiana! Tiana also has not been here long, but we are so happy she’s here!

Tiana was born and raised in Florida, but has lived in Nashville for about 8 years. In her free time, she likes hanging out with her daughter and fur babies and spending time at the beach. She dreams of opening her own pitbull rescue one day!

Our first receptionist introduction of Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week is Alison!

Alison has been a receptionist at Priest Lake for two and a half years. She was a zookeeper before that, so she loves seeing all kinds of exotic pets at PLVH. Alison also has a small zoo at home: 2 cats, a lizard, and a 3 year old son who sometimes crawls around and meows like a cat.

It’s veterinary receptionist appreciation week🥳
This week we’re celebrating the awesome ladies who make our jobs easier. They have so many responsibilities, and without them, we would all be scrambling to do our jobs every day😵‍💫
They’re the first faces you see when you walk in our clinic☀️ They’re usually the ones to answer your phone calls📞 they’re the ones making sure you get your pet’s medication refills, scheduling your appointments, decorating the clinic for various holidays, and so much more.
If you come into the clinic this week, tell the ladies up front thank you for being so amazing at their jobs!
