Formerly known as Sonja (now Tessie) and Ramona (now Starlie), these two very sweet girls are embracing a beautiful new chapter and are still searching for their forever homes. 💕
Watching their transformation into gentle, loving little buns has been so special, and they continue to do wonderfully in rescue care every single day. We felt it was only fitting to give them brand new names to celebrate their fresh start and the bright future ahead of them.
Tessie and Starlie are affectionate, beautiful girls who deserve families of their very own where they can continue to thrive and be loved. 🐇
Could one of these sweet girls be your perfect match?

Why is nobody applying for Ramona & Sonja? 💔🐰
These two sweet girls have been waiting over a year for their forever homes.
Ramona and Sonja were rescued from a junkyard in New Jersey after being abandoned with several other rabbits. A kind person stepped in to save them, and one by one the others found homes… but these two are still waiting.
They are very sweet little girls who are longing for a loving family to finally come for them.
They have been overlooked for far too long, but they deserve the same happy ending as the others.
✨ Ramona and Sonja are not bonded and can be adopted separately.
Please help them get seen.

Domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) have highly specialized physiological and behavioral needs that differ significantly from many other companion species. Providing species-appropriate husbandry is essential for maintaining both physical health and psychological welfare.
Rabbits are crepuscular prey animals, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk and rely heavily on vigilance behaviors to detect potential threats. Because of this, they thrive best in secure indoor environments where stressors such as predators, extreme temperatures, and parasites are minimized.
From a behavioral standpoint, rabbits are social lagomorphs that benefit from compatible pair-bonding, which can reduce chronic stress and promote normal affiliative behaviors such as allogrooming and resting together. Environmental enrichment is equally critical—providing opportunities for foraging, digging, chewing, and exploratory locomotion allows rabbits to express species-typical behaviors and helps prevent the development of stereotypies associated with boredom or chronic stress.
Nutrition is another cornerstone of rabbit health. Rabbits possess elodont (aradicular hypsodont) dentition, meaning their teeth grow continuously throughout life. A diet consisting primarily of unlimited grass hay provides the abrasive fiber necessary for natural dental wear and supports proper hindgut fermentation and gastrointestinal motility, reducing the risk of dental malocclusion and gastrointestinal hypomotility (GI stasis).
Proper housing, social companionship, environmental enrichment, and a fiber-rich diet are not luxuries—they are fundamental welfare requirements for rabbits in human care.
🐇 Educating guardians about evidence-based rabbit husbandry is one of the most effective ways to improve long-term welfare outcomes for this often misunderstood species.

Gastrointestinal stasis (GI stasis; gastrointestinal hypomotility/ileus) is one of the most common life-threatening emergencies in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Because rabbits are hindgut fermenters with a highly specialized cecal microbiome, normal gastrointestinal motility is essential for maintaining microbial balance, digestion, and overall metabolic health.
When gut motility slows or stops, ingesta and gas accumulate within the gastrointestinal tract. This can rapidly lead to severe abdominal pain, dehydration, dysbiosis of the cecal microflora, and hepatic lipidosis if anorexia persists. Without prompt veterinary intervention, GI stasis can become fatal within 24–48 hours.
Early clinical signs often include:
• Anorexia or hyporexia (reduced food intake)
• Decreased f***l output or absence of f***l pellets
• Hunched posture (indicative of abdominal pain)
• Lethargy and reduced activity
Common predisposing factors include low-fiber diets, dental disease, dehydration, stress, pain, systemic illness, or gastrointestinal obstruction. Because rabbits rely on continuous intake of indigestible fiber to stimulate gastrointestinal motility, unlimited grass hay is a critical component of prevention.
🚨 A rabbit that stops eating should always be treated as a veterinary emergency. If your rabbit shows any of these signs, contact an exotics veterinarian immediately.
Education and early recognition can save lives.

🐰 Rabbits are not Easter gifts. They are complex companion animals with specialized welfare needs.
Domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus) are not low-maintenance or “starter pets.” They are a long-lived prey species with unique physiological and behavioral requirements that many families are unprepared for.
Rabbits commonly live 14+ years and require exotic veterinary care, species-appropriate housing, and a highly specialized diet. Their gastrointestinal system is extremely sensitive, and improper husbandry can quickly lead to serious conditions such as gastrointestinal stasis (GI stasis). They also require unlimited grass hay to maintain normal dental wear because their teeth are continuously growing (elodont / aradicular hypsodont dentition).
As prey animals, rabbits are also easily stressed by handling, loud environments, and unpredictable interactions, which can make them unsuitable companions for young children without experienced adult supervision.
Unfortunately, rescues see a significant surge in surrendered rabbits after Easter when families realize that rabbits require far more care, space, and commitment than expected.
This Easter, please choose chocolate eggs and stuffed bunnies — not live animals.
If you are considering a rabbit, adoption should be a carefully researched, long-term commitment.
❤️ Rabbits deserve informed guardianship, not seasonal novelty.

As promised here is Ramona! Ramona has been waiting over a year for someone to choose her 💔
She was found dumped in a New Jersey junkyard, scared and shut down…
but thanks to her rescue and foster home, she’s slowly learning how to trust again.
Ramona is a gentle, sweet girl who loves pets, and once she feels safe, her personality really starts to shine. She’s a petite little lady, does well with other bunnies (especially males 👀), and yes… she’s a total flirt.
She just needs someone patient enough to give her the time she deserves.
The “underdogs” always wait the longest… and she’s still waiting.
If you have room in your heart and a home for her, please reach out 💕
📍Located in NY

And if you can’t adopt — please share. That’s how rabbits like Ramona get seen 🐰
