Don't overfeed your dog, it will significantly impact their health and happiness
More than 50% of dogs in America are obese and this number is on the rise. Overweight dogs are at increased risk of metabolic abnormalities, cardiovascular disease, joint diseases, a lowered immune system, and many other health problems. They also are less mobile and can’t run, play, or do other activities as much as they’d like. Do your pet a favor, feed them the amount recommended by their vet and don’t give in to those puppy dogs eyes when they ask for more!

Dany had a vet visit today to check the sore on her belly, and it was not great news. The shelter had it as an abscess, but Dr K did a fine needle biopsy and said it’s definitely a mass, not an infection. He will have to remove it and do a tissue biopsy to tell if it’s benign or not, but right now she isn’t healthy enough for anesthesia.

He said she might also have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, which can be treated with digestive enzymes so he prescribed those and we immediately went and put some on a cheeseburger because life is short.

Her prognosis is not great, but her spirits and appetite both are, so we’re taking the win in that category and hoping for the best. We will make sure she is as well-fed and comfortable in whatever time she has left.

💔 With great sadness, we announce that Ida has crossed the rainbow bridge. After landing with our veterinary partners, Ida continued to decline, despite treatment. Her body - her soul - was tired, and she was suffering. She is no longer suffering. Ida is in a place more beautiful than this world ever was to her, prancing and barking and howling at the moon with all of the other good pups. Our hearts are heavy tonight. We miss you already, little one. You mattered, and you were so very, very loved.

Tell your pets how much you adore them. Tell them to say hello to Ida when they see her in their dreams. Thank you all for your compassion and support for Ida's rescue. We know it meant the world to her.

High temperatures can be dangerous for dogs and can lead to heat stroke, which can be fatal if not treated promptly.

Circumstances that can lead to heat stroke are:

1. Leaving your dog outside to dry after bathing when the weather is hot.

2. Tying to leash your dog outside under the sun.
3. Exercising them during the hottest parts of the day
4. Leaving your dog in the car without A/C during hot weather.
5. Putting your dog at the back of a pickup when traveling.

It is important to provide plenty of water and shade for dogs during hot weather.
It is also important to monitor your dogs for signs of heat stroke, such as excessive panting, drooling of saliva, reddened gums, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of coordination, and collapse.
