For birds you would like to mount read the following:

How to store:
1.) get your bird home and in a freezer ASAP
2.) wrap head and feet in wet paper towels
3.) lay head flat on the back or next to the wing, not under the wing
4.) place in a 2 Gallon zip loc bag and squeeze all the air out.
5.) double bag it or wrap the zip loc in Saran Wrap.
6.) do your taxidermist a favor and tag your bird by placing a piece of paper in the bag with your bird with your name, address, phone number, hunting license number, date and location of harvest, and what the species is.

If you are wondering if a bird is mount worthy read the following:

1.) head shots are not great for taxidermy but not a complete deal breaker for a special bird.
2.) damaged bills are not a problem. Most taxidermists use artificial heads /bills
3.) blood and dirt is not a problem. We wash the crap out of them.
4.) we can fix broken wings/ bones sometimes depending on how bad. We CANNOT fix lots of missing feathers.
5.) if you have a shot up bird that you want to mount let your taxidermist look at it and go with whatever pose he thinks with hide the damage the best. You can always mount a bird with shot out wings standing.
6.) get the birds to your taxidermist ASAP. Don’t let them sit in the freezer for 2 years before taking it somewhere.

If you have a bird you want to mount that isn’t completely dead, set the bird on the ground and place your knee on his back and put your body weight on the bird for a minute or so and he will expire in a minute or so.

DO NOT
1.) use pantyhose
2.) use pantyhose
3.) use pantyhose
And 4.). DONT USE PANTYHOSE.
5.) use a finisher
6.) bite their heads.
