People believed that these cats were helping witches with their evil deeds. They also believed that black cats were witches in disguise. To this day, the superstition surrounding black cats remains. 🌟Our September employee spotlight is Anna!!
Anna just passed her Veterinary Technician National Exam and is now a Certified Veterinary Technician(CVT) here at SmartVet, congrats girl! 🎉
She says "...there is a lot of studying and hard work that goes into being a CVT. You have to have clinical skills as well as an understanding of the body systems, microbiology, math conversions, medications, and so much more."
When Anna isn't at work she is spending time with her Pomeranian/Papillion Mix, Baxter. She likes making jewelry, hiking, and paddle boarding.
Fun fact about Anna, she loves ceramics and went to art school before deciding that she wanted to become a CVT!
Anna has quickly become an essential part of our team, and we are so happy to have her! 🩵🩵

This day is a time to celebrate the lives of beloved pets and to reflect on the bond shared with them. It can also be a reminder of the hope of reuniting with them in the future.🐾❤️🌈

Hello friends!
Just letting everyone know that SmartVet will be closed for the holiday weekend. We will be closed Saturday the 31st through Monday the 2nd.

International Dog Day is observed annually on August 26 to honor all dogs – no matter shapes, sizes, age and breeds – and encourage adoption to all those who have yet to find a home and a family forever.🐶🐾🦮
It is a good and symbolic occasion to celebrate man’s best friend and to remember that every dog around the world should deserve a better life: a life of joy, love, protection, care and respect.

Heartworm prevention for dogs is an important concern for every pet owner. Prevention is an important part of providing essential care, and heartworm disease prevention for dogs is something every owner can do. Consider this:

🐾Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes, so any area of the country that has mosquitoes—even just a few of them—can also have heartworm disease.
🐾Dogs don’t just need prevention during warm-weather months. Heartworm preventives work by treating heartworms that already infected the pet within the past month or longer; meanwhile, preventives need to be given on time, every time to be effective. That’s why the American Heartworm Society recommends year-round heartworm prevention for pets.
🐾The American Heartworm Society estimates that more than a million dogs in the U.S. have heartworm disease—and heartworm disease can be fatal.
🐾Heartworm preventives are safe, relatively inexpensive and easy to give, but if a dog becomes infected, heartworm treatment can be costly and difficult, requiring multiple veterinary visits and months of exercise restriction.
🐾While there are drug-free strategies owners can put in place to reduce a pet’s exposure to mosquitoes, there’s no such thing as a “natural” heartworm preventives.
