Meet Kitty! She is a loving outdoor Calico cat, who desperately wishes for a home to call her own. 🏡💗

One of our amazing clients has been caring for her, but is unable to keep Kitty as her home is already maxed out on paws!🐾

Kitty has been hanging around, trying to persuade those around her, for a few months now. It seems as if she previously could have been an indoor cat, but her back story is unknown. We do know that she is as sweet as can be and is also spayed! 😸

Her current caretaker said that while she is out on walks with her dog, Kitty will follow them around the neighborhood and try to sneak her way inside when they get back home! 🥹💜

Happy Birthday to Dr. Sikora! She has been with Animal Care Clinic for over 23 years now! We are so lucky to have such a caring, skilled veterinarian such as herself. 🥳🐾

We consider the Leptospirosis vaccination as one of our "core" vaccines at ACC & the majority of our canine patients receive it annually. But why do we encourage our dogs to be vaccinated for "Lepto"?

Lepto is a zoonotic disease, meaning that it can harm you & your dog. It spreads through contact with infected animal urine, which is commonly found in puddles, along with other natural bodies of water where these infected animals travel & drink.

Feline Enrichment Idea: Mouse Feeders!🐭

This smart feeding system was introduced to us by The Behavior Clinic in Olmsted Falls during our lunch and learn with them a while back. It was brought to our attention that cats thrive when hunting their food versus being served a big meal in a bowl in the same place every day. 🐈‍⬛

These mouse feeders, created by , each hold a small portion of food, offering multiple smaller meals throughout a period of time, which aids in better digestion for your cat while stimulating their hunting senses.💜🐾

If your cat struggles with bad behavior, boredom, (behavioral) litter box issues, night waking, scarf & barf, or weight problems- consider hiding these cute mouse feeders around the house! 😻

Today is National Blind Dog Day! 🐕

What better way to celebrate than sharing an inclusive scent hunting game!💜

The nose is a dog's strongest sense, they have more than over 100 million sensory receptors while we only have 6 million! For blind dogs, their sense of smell is what they rely on most. 🐾

Put your dog's nose to the test by playing fun, scent games with them. Start with a simple game like this one:

Supplies:
- a few small boxes
-several low calorie training treats

How to Play:
1. While your dog is in another room, place empty boxes throughout the play space.

2. Place a few treats in each box. Once your dog gets good at finding the treats, start only placing treats in one or two of the boxes.

3. Encourage your dog to search, you may need to help the first few times you play. Once all the treats are found, tell your dog "good job" and reward with a treat directly from your hand. Make sure to clearly show the dog that the game is over by saying "all done" and changing activities.

🐾Update on our sweet Nico🐾

This determined boy has been working hard on his weight loss journey! He has been with us since May 31, 2024 and weighed 28.75 pounds. 🙀

We have been feeding him Hills Prescription Metabolic Diet, he has been receiving monthly Solensia injections (for arthritis), and getting lots of exercise playing with us and Pistachio. 😸💜

His last weigh in was August 16, 2024 and was 25.80 pounds. That means he has lost 2.95 pounds in 77 days, which is very impressive for a cat! His hard work is really showing off & we are so proud of his progress! 😻

🚨Attention Dog Owners! Lyme Disease is at an all time high in Stark County.🚨

Did you know that last month, it was reported that 1 in 15 dogs were positive for Lyme Disease?! It only takes 1 bite from an infected tick to start transmitting harmful bacteria into the bloodstream. Unfortunately, we can not tell if the tick bite will affect your dog's health until 1-2 months after the initial bite, sometimes longer.

Some dogs will show no obvious symptoms, while others experience symptoms such as:

- Generalized Pain
- Limping
- Decreased Appetite
- High Fever
- Lethargy
- Vomiting
- Weight Loss

Luckily, Lyme Disease can be prevented by keeping your dog current on a veterinary recommended flea & tick prevention, such as Simparica or Simparica Trio. We also offer the Lyme vaccine as an extra line of defense against Lyme Disease. 🦺🐾

Remember, be aware of your environment and do your best to avoid adventuring through thick woods, tall grass and fields. It is good practice to perform daily tick checks as well. 🌲🔍
