Everybody say cheese! 📸 Dr. Mullen sees 3 generations of furry friends from this family and is always excited when they’re in town from Texas with their crew. Doing exams on happy 90lb labs isn’t always the easiest (all the wiggles!!), but Levi & Harley are the best boys and we all loved meeting them. 🐾🩷

Meet our new friend!! This is Clementine and she is a new rescue with . 🦎 She’s a crested gecko and did so well for her wellness exam with Dr. Mann. Did you know crested geckos have no eyelids? You can kinda tell in this picture! Instead, they have a transparent scale over their eyes that they lick to keep their eyes from getting dry. Just crested gecko things! 😊

As promised, here are some “yes” ✅ and “no” ❌ foods to share (or not share!!) with your furry friends over the Thanksgiving holiday! If your dog is like Lulu, they probably want some turkey bones, pie, corn on the cob perhaps… And while yes, all of those would taste good, they would not feel so good after… 😅 We tend to see a lot of G.I obstructions and pancreatitis right after the holidays, so you want to avoid giving any bones or cobs, or treats high in fat, like ham. Grapes/raisins and onions/garlic can be deadly to dogs of all sizes, even if they just had one! 😳 You can (in moderation) share some turkey meat (not skin), vegetables, pumpkin puree, and other fruits as well! 🍎 Thanksgiving is a time for thankfulness, sharing, and food comas, but we don’t want anyone to end up in the ER! 🏥 As a reminder, We will be closed Thursday and Friday, but Bluepearl and Veterinary Specialty Center will be open in case of any emergencies. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday and we will be back on Monday! 🍽️🐾🩷

Nalah’s got her turkey slippers on and she’s getting excited for Thanksgiving coming up right around the corner! 🍗🩷 She wanted to let everyone know that we will be closed next Thursday and Friday, (the 28th + 29th of November). In case of any emergency on those days, please contact BluePearl or Veterinary Specialty Center. We are in office up until Wednesday the 27th. If anyone needs any medications or any last minute vaccines for boarding, feel free to give us a call (preferably ahead of Wednesday) at 224-261-8470! We’ll be posting some Thanksgiving fur friend safety tips next week too, so stay tuned! 🐾🍗

Best. Appointment. Ever!!!! 🐾🩷 brought us 8 mastiff puppies last week 🥹 These babies were 11 weeks old and already ranging from 25-30lbs each and were all so sweet and happy during their exams for their vaccines! 🤗

Someone’s stray hold is up… which means someone is officially our new clinic kitty… 🤭 Introducing : Duncan!! ✨ His story: Our CVT Michelle was on vacation and had a friend dropping in to check on her 2 cats. Friend spotted Duncan in Michelle’s building and gave him somewhere safe to spend the night. She immediately fell in love with him (but has a zoo at home) and told Michelle about him who then told Dr. Mann who said “bring the baby!!” The baby was brought. 🤗 He was not microchipped and both Michelle and her friend put in a lot of effort into trying to find his owners in their community but after 10 days of no one reaching out, his stray hold was officially up and he got neutered on Tuesday. We all adore him and his tiny ears! He is so sweet and loves cuddles and is also super playful. In true clinic kitty fashion: he is not a fan of dogs. 😹 He makes us all laugh every day and he’s already spoiled rotten here and so loved! He’s still learning his way around the clinic, and getting exploration time when it’s quiet, but soon you’ll hopefully all be seeing him around! Yay for baby Duncan!! 🐱🩷

The original Kohn Animal Hospital was located in Highland Park, IL and was created by Dr. Leonard Kohn in the early 1950s. His granddaughter, Dr. Greta Mann, has revitalized the practice to follow in his footsteps.
