Quality of Life wants the community
to know that we will answer your
call to help animals. We specialize in reptiles and amphibians,
but we are here to help all within our ability. A big part of our effort is to build a network
of foster homes and animal lovers. Our mission is to rescue, rehab and release. We will transport wildlife to the proper
rehab facility, if injured or orphaned. We are

also available to the community
to assist in re-homing companion animals. Pet publicist and adoption coordinator available,
provided you are willing and able to foster the animal. We hope to soon be able to assist with the sterilization
of feral cat populations, locally.

ā€¼ļøURGENTā€¼ļø
Little Crush isnā€™t doing so hot. Iā€™m worried heā€™s anemic and needs a transfusion. I just reached out to Dr.Biggs in archer to see if she has any openings and could squeeze us in for bloodwork and a transfusion if needed. If she canā€™t, we need to start fundraising to take him to either TAH or their new emergency vet. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s from the fleas, hooks, and coccidia or if he does have PL. we canā€™t test because he was just vaccinated and he could test false positive. Either way, weā€™re going to try everything in our power to pull him through this.
We do have liquitinic and fluids coming from Chiefland today at some point but I donā€™t know if thatā€™s going to be enough.
If he miraculously starts getting energy and eating on his own weā€™ll try to just do the liquitinic and fluids. Iā€™m going to continue to feed him every few hours by syringe. Nutrical will be here tomorrow.
We really need to fundraise for this.
We have $380 in the rescue account right now.
If Dr.Biggs can fit us in, it shouldnā€™t be much more than that. If she canā€™t, well, we have to raise about $800. We have 3 emergency vets to choose from.
I know, itā€™s insane. But other rescues do it with ease and I believe that we can all scrape together some change to try and help Crush.
He deserves a fighting chance. Just like Mochi did.
Every penny adds up. Even if you can only donate change, it adds up. Every share helps us get the word out. Help us give Crush a fighting chance.
He didnā€™t ask to be born, get sick, be dumped.
Letā€™s do this.

URGENT! FRIDAY NIGHT DEADLINE FOR RICO!
Rico is a 8 month old lab pit bull mix . He is a sweet puppy and loves to go for walks and play fetch with the ball.

He has been neutered and spayed, and his shots are up-to-date. He has a separation anxiety, and this has caused him to be audibly disruptive during the day. This has led to his foster, dad being threatened with eviction. He needs a foster or adoptive home immediately. He's a goofy puppy, so we assume he'd be alright with just about any situation given time but he has not been tested around cats.

FILLED: Thank you Tish Morris !!

Transport needed Thursday: Palm Cay to Sheltering Hands and back (Ocala FL)

Freddie Mercury has been in Foster to Adopt placement for a month and he is doing great! He has an appointment at Sheltering Hands Thursday morning at 11:00 am for his annual vaccine updates. You will need to arrive to pick him up at about 10:30 (and bring a carrier and probably need to help his new mom load him up). Mom does not need to ride with you and we would expect you be dropping him off at home at about noon (possibly earlier if all goes well).

The appointment should not take more than a 1/2 hour. And Freddie would need to be returned to his house in Palm Cay (about 20 minutes away from Sheltering Hands).

Please connect with Aspen by text if you can help 3528436858

WARNING: GRAPHIC eye injury... photo of the kitten is nested at the back of the album.
URGENT need for an approved foster for this baby in Marion County, FL!
Please remember that sad reactions are not good for this kitten's post and we want his story to get out there so we can help him!

The kitten has intake and medical expense commitment from a reputable local rescue partner but the baby needs an approved foster. We are wracking our brains and can't think of who (within our network) could help with this today. The kitten has a tentative appointment for 3pm tomorrow but still needs a foster home!

As always, you can text Aspen at 352-843-6858 if you are able to help.

"Grateful" can never fully summarize how deeply we appreciate what goes into the biweekly Chewy donation pickups at VOCAL.

What you see in the boxes is CASES of 3 pound bags of Science Diet Kitten kibble and Urinary C/D 3 pound bags cat kibble. We also got a kitty door and a nice pile of cat litter, some non medical cat kibble and a good stock of canned cat food for the week!

The support that these donations afford our organization is priceless! The ways in which Chewy works to give back to the rescue community is incredible. These items could be thrown away but, instead, Chewy sends them to the VOCAL teams and they work their butts off to get the supplies into the waiting hands ( and paws) of rescues and shelters! How beautifully orchestrated!

Animals win when we work together!!

Tiki's Freedom ride began today at 3pm. Our friend Roberta Fox picked him up for us at Orange County Animal Shelter and drove him to rendezvous in Wildwood, FL at Russel Stovers. From there, he is riding with Aspen and Bryan to overnight hold and foster placement, tomorrow, with miss April.

This guy has a lot to unpack. He was brought in as an owner surrender to OCAS on 8/1. He is 12 years old (10 years spent with surrendering owner) and had some skin trouble going on. The team at OCAS gave him a skin scraping (which had no findings) and a Convenia injection. He weighs 9 pounds and he is a friendly cat. Tiki was previously front declawed and is a senior boy. A shelter is no place for him and we are glad we were able to work with our village to get him into a loving foster home.

Now located in Ocala FL :)

Hopscotch is an incredibly affectionate boy. He was rescued from a cinder block under a mobile home in Summerfield. He is now four years old and has been in the same foster home that entire time!

Where does the time go?

Hopscotch is fostered in Ocala FL and gets along well with everything and everyone.

Carlton is a good boy. He hung out and helped us fold laundry (his method of helping was to burrow into the warm pile and make a fort). We need to get a good clip of him with his foster mom so ya'll can see just how big he's grown! He is a chunky butt!!

Carlton has been with us for exactly one year (his first post is here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/AWByUdz9vYhDMTGr/?mibextid=oFDknk ). That means his brief life is also about half lived (rats only live about 3 years). He was found as a stray (domestic) rat in the Carlton Arms apartment complex in Ocala (thus the name) and he was a bit bitey at the time. He is a much sweeter friend, now that we have worked with him.

We would love to see Carlton adopted and cherished in his golden years. He deserves adventure and friendship! His foster home has many foster cats and Carlton doesn't get a lot of hang out time because it's just not safe. Rats are easy to keep and Carlton would come with a cage.

If you've never made friends with a rat... you don't know what you're missing.

Seriously.

Fostered in Ocala FL.

Kibbie is a phenomenal lap cat. She is VERY intelligent and especially loves her foster dad. She is an F5 Savanah cat with more of an agouti coat (only her tummy is spotted). She is about 7 years old and gets along well with the other cats. She enjoys sleeping with her foster and waits for every opportunity to get in his lap.

Kibbie is spayed, chipped and up to date on vaccines. She is a good sized cat and probably weighs close to 15 pounds. Fostered in Ocala FL. Look for the adoption application in the thread below.

*please excuse the way in which the paint has peeled from the wall. This is an unfortunate occurrence that involved a lazer pointer, a couple of cats and some cheap acrylic paint.

Lavender is one of three bengal cats we have in our adoption program (and then only female). She has come a long way since her intake and she is ready for adoption. She is shy and sometimes aloof, but she will warm up with time. She gets on well with other cats and kittens. She is fully vetted and has rudimentary house manners (she will climb on everything if she thinks it looks cozy).

Lavender is located in Ocala FL and we will link an application in the comments for anyone interested in applying to adopt her. We require good vet references and a favorable home visit.

Happy Adoption Teddy! One of our favorite ways to help the community is through our "Owner Foster Program". In certain circumstances, an animal can actually stay in its surrendering home while we work to responsibly rehome that animal.

Such was the case for Teddy. His family had an ongoing alpha struggle happening and, even after 2 years of training and conditioning, there would still be fights between Teddy and their senior Pyrenees. They had a baby on the way and they were wise enough to know that they could choose a better future for both dogs AND eliminate the risk that the baby/future toddler would be caught in the middle of a dog fight.

They "fostered" Teddy and we began promoting him. We had a pile of applications because he is a gorgeous purebred Aussie. One application shone above the rest as a perfect match for Teddy (the others were good, don't get us wrong... but this one app was PERFECT). We connected them with Teddy's people and the rest is history!

Teddy was adopted in May and we have had some wonderful updates. Here is an excerpt from a recent update:

"We LOVE him! He is so amazing! I've been texting (his former owners) that they did a great job with him!
He fetches and brings the ball back to me, walks with me, doesn't bark at everyone or cars that drive by, does a great job in the car and going out to get ice cream! He is a bed hog at night šŸ˜³ We just had family dinner with 16 people- doesn't jump on anyone, doesn't bark at them, and by the end of the night was letting everyone pet him.
He is perfect!! Thank you so much!"

Happy endings like this are exactly why we SUPPORT surrendering owners thar want to do it right. Fortunately, Teddy had a lot going for him and it did not take long to have quality applicants lined up. And ultimately he was able to transition from having to be juggled in isolation for part of each day (to keep him separated from the other alpha dog) to being a full fledged, thriving member of a new family that needed him!

How can anyone think it would have been better for Teddy to stay with the first family?! Rehoming is a wonderful tool when it is done thoughtfully and responsibly. We do not entertain same day adoptions for this reason. It takes a little time to practice die diligence and it's the LEAST we can do for these precious animals.

Congratulations Teddy! We are over the moon for you, buddy!!

Ted Bunny enjoys getting g flowers, on occasion. In fact, there are quite a few animals in our care that enjoy hibiscus blooms. Enrichment and treats make everyone smile!

This sweet momma kitty finds herself in need of an adoptive home. She was spayed on Wednesday due to complications with her pregnancy where she lost her kittens. Her kind caretakers have named her Mercy and she is a very affectionate cat. Estimated to be about a year old, she is now spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She was eartipped, had a flea treatment and is using the litterbox.

Mercy is resting in a three tier cat condo in medical hold, at this time. She has had some blood in her urine and we are watching to see if she will need further medical intervention. It is our hope (and that of the caretakers) that this gorgeous momma find an adoptive INDOOR home. It is what she deserves.

Her adoption fee will be waived for an approved applicant. We are looking for good vet references and a satisfactory home visit. We will drop the link to our application in the comments. We are located in Ocala FL.

It is our PRIVILEGE to share this 1 year adoption update about Tater and Meatball. They could not be happier... and they are absolutely loved and treasured by their forever family! This is an excerpt from a message that we got from their mom:

"After losing our two Rottweilers within 9 months of each other, who were also bonded for over 12 years, the pain was so hard that we thought we would never get another dog again, let alone two. We found the strength to volunteer at the rescue and the rest is history. Itā€™s like they were on a mission to find us because they knew we needed them just as much as they needed us."

We share her heartfelt words with everyone with the hopes it will inspire others to foster and adopt. They followed their hearts and they were led to the animals that needed them, most.

These sweet dogs had been witness to the devastating loss of their human dad. They were then rescued and fostered by his friend who recognized the importance of them staying together. That friend reached out to us for help rehoming and we mounted a huge mission to do just that. Thier post went viral!

We had what we thought was going to be a perfect placement and transport was arranged to Pennsylvania. We had no way to know that the placement would fail within an hour of them arriving at their new home. We had no way to know the family would completely ignore all advice from our organization and even ignored their own trainer! The dogs landed with a rescue in PA and that is where they met thier AMAZING forever family!

It has been exactly a year since we sent them on their journey... a year since everything seemingly fell apart for them (so far from anyone they knew). It is, INDEED, our privilege to have played a part (however unwittingly) in their journey.
Through Divine intervention and so much good energy from our village, Tater and Meatball found their way into the home that needed them, all along. A place where they are appreciated and loved. A place where they BELONG.

Meet Araya Sunshine (named by her heros). She is now safe and sound.

Foster mom Megan picked her up today (we stole these photos from the sweet girls that rescued her). She will be seen tomorrow by the vet, combo tested and scanned for a chip. She is very emaciated. We are praying it's just intestinal parasites and a need for good groceries. The wonderful woman that found her has sent a donation towards her care and that is deeply appreciated! We are running on LITERAL fumes, already, this month.

Araya is safe because her (now) foster mom saw the Lost and Found post and felt compelled to help her. She connected with us and put her hand in the air. With her commitment backing us, we didn't hesitate to start stitching the plan together. An emaciated kitty that is found in the country is PRECISELY the kind of customer we want to serve, so to speak. And when one of our foster families feels moved to help... we will move mountains to back them. And we can do that because YA'LL back US!

We have not been closed to intake but we HAVE been carefully managing what we respond to. We (rescues) are all experiencing such hardship, right now. We have to be cautious to not allow the scales to tip... things are so desperately precarious, as is. We are reserving ourselves for those in the most need and those we know we can help. Smartie Pants and Greyson are two other such recent medical intakes. We have 3 cats going to the vet tomorrow and we are asking everyone to help us rebuild our reserves, once more.

We filled the gas tank 1/2 way tonight. We stopped at Walmart and bought greens, fabuloso and bleach to get us by for a few more days. Things are tight! We need some help!

The truth of the matter is that we don't even have enough to cover the storage units, this month (it bills on the 9th). We were able to consolidate the two smaller units into one of the (2) bigger unit and that saved us about $300 a month... but we are still scrambling. We need some help catching up, ya'll. We need money for just about everything... feed, cleaning supplies, litter, vet bills, transportation, storage...

We couldn't keep this effort afloat without our village and you guys come through, everytime. If you can't donate, please consider taking a moment to spread the word and let others know that we need some help! And, as always... please do keep us in your prayers and positive thoughts!!

Update: Tiki is now safe with us and was pulled from the shelter today (Monday).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are partnered with OCAS and will gladly pull this old boy if we have a foster in Marion County that can offer him a safe place to land. Comment on OUR shared post, here (or text us at 352-843-6858).
He is 12, declawed and shutting down in the shelter environment. With a foster to help, we can spare him this fate.
This is not our big announcement about Maggie May... but watching this brought tears to our eyes! This is the same dog that was scheduled for amputation because her leg was essentially destroyed. The tendons had been torn from the bone in her foot/ankle and the atrophy in her elbow was going to be permanent. Two veterinarians had given the same advice and they were NOT wrong. But Maggie May had other ideas and thankfully her village was paying attention. The amputation was cancelled, last minute and this pup has not slowed down, one bit! She is absolutely unsinkable and watching her play with her new siblings (spoiler alert) is the absolute best gift!
Look at her GO!! Her leg isn't healed, anatomically... but she is resilient and she ADAPTED! She flourished in homes full of love. Fosters save lives!
Happy little update on Boo Boo (the 11 year old Chihuahua boy that we were networking last week). He landed in foster with a WONDERFUL couple with no other pets. He settled in pretty fast and took to foster dad, right away (he seems to prefer men).
His foster mom sent us this adorable clip of Boo Boo having a pup cup and we just HAD to share! This little man is 11 years old, housebroken, fully vetted and seeking adoptive placement. He is a well adjusted and well mannered gentleman and has lots of good years left! Located in Ocala FL.
Foster homes help us save lives and we couldn't do this without them! We are always looking for foster families so hit us up if you live in or around Marion County.
We stayed up through the night to keep an eye on everyone. All is well and we didn't even lose power! Hallelujah!
