Osteoarthritis (OA), or joint pain, is common for older adults, but it can affect your furry family members as well. It’s trickier to spot though because it doesn’t just affect older dogs—it can impact them as much emotionally as it does physically. Therefore, although 40% of dogs show signs of OA pain, less than half are diagnosed. Early detection is key. The tornado on April 26th severely impacted at least 75 families, including staff, in the Elkhorn Public Schools district. To support those affected, the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation will begin collecting monetary donations for the “Tornado Relief Fund” and will work with the Elkhorn district administrators to distribute funds to families in need of assistance. Cannabidiol (CBD) is also gaining popularity as a treatment for canine anxiety—but do your research and check with your vet before administering this to you pet.

If possible, getting your dog out for a walk, run, or some other energy-burning exercise prior to your departure is extremely helpful in reducing stress. A tired dog has a much greater chance of being a calm dog. (And by the way, it works for people, too!)

Last week we had one of our own, conduct our Fire Training! Kelly is a Licensed Veterinary Technician at our Skyline location in Elkhorn. We are very appreciative of her fire skills and her willingness to train all staff, at each of our locations!! We do these trainings each year, in the month of May. We have four veterinarians on staff so we can offer more hours and at least two opinions at any time on advanced medical or surgical cases!

Ridgeview’s 7 technicians are all licensed veterinary technicians. They were trained to monitor anesthesia, perform lab work, and many other procedures. We are proud of their expertise.

Ridgeview Animal Hospital is well equipped with advanced equipment and technologies to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. Our facility has the equipment to provide comprehensive in house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, ultrasound, surgical suite, dental suite, pharmacy, and more.
