Breed Spotlight: Giant Schnauzer! 🐾

Giant Schnauzers are a loyal and intelligent breed originating from Germany where they were used as herding and guard dogs. Giant Schnauzers were developed by the breeding of the Standard Schnauzer with larger dogs.

Giant Schnauzers have a wiry double coat that is either all black or salt and pepper colored that requires frequent grooming. Like most dogs, this breed requires plenty of exercise and even more mental stimulation since they are extremely intelligent and tend to be territorial.

Overall, Giant Schnauzers make a great family pet and guard dog but may not be ideal for first time pet owners.

On a day like today hot pavement can seriously burn your dog’s paws!

To protect them, walk your dog during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Stick to grassy or shaded areas whenever possible, and always check the pavement temperature with your hand before heading out. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Day Hollow Pro-Tip: Hot weather! ☀️

With temperatures rising, it’s important to make sure your pet stays cool so they don’t overheat. One way to make sure they stay cool is to keep their fur groomed for the season. If your pet’s fur grows long, make sure to keep it shorter in the summer heat so they will be more comfortable in hot weather.

Breed Spotlight: Rottweiler! 🐾

Rottweilers are loyal protectors and great guard dogs with hearts of gold. These powerful, intelligent dogs thrive on training, love, and plenty of exercise. Ideal for active families!

Originating in Germany, they were historically used for herding and guarding. They have a muscular build, black coat with tan markings, and require regular exercise and training. With proper socialization, they make excellent family pets and guard dogs.

They are generally healthy but can be prone to certain genetic conditions such as hip dysplasia and heart complications but serious conditions can be prevented with regular checkups. Overall, Rottweilers make great companions for those who are willing to invest time to their training and care.

With temperatures rising this week, we thought it would be the perfect time to give you some hot weather pet safety tips! 🌞

• Hydration is Key: Make sure your pets have plenty of fresh, cool water available at all times.

• Avoid Peak Heat: Walk your pets during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.

• Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can rise rapidly and become dangerous

• Paw Protection: Asphalt and sand can get extremely hot at temperatures as low as 75 and burn your pet’s paws. Stick to grass or shaded paths when walking.

• Grooming: Keep their fur well-groomed. For some breeds, a shorter trim can help keep them cool, but be cautious not to shave them completely as their fur also provides sun protection.

• Watch for Signs of Heatstroke: Symptoms include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or collapse. If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool place and contact us asap.
