This gorgeous pup, Prime, is here for a board and train. He's working on socialization and refreshing obedience skills.

He did an AMAZING job today meeting one of our dogs (pics 2-3).

He may or may not have had an awkward teenage boy moment afterwards (pic 4), but I promised him I'd blur the embarassing part :)

This is Sage. She's here for a board and train from .

Shes 5-7 yrs old and was rescued from a breeding situatuon in August. She's incredibly sweet, soft, and just wants to love. Unfortunately she's been moved around a lot since being rescued and has developed severe separation anxiety. Given her past, she doesn't have much socialization experience and is nervous/unsure around other dogs--especially males.

Sean is working with her on both the separation and socialization.

So far she likes sunbathing outside, did amazing in her crate yesterday, and has stopped reacting to our dogs when separated by a fence.

She's going to make an incredible dog for whoever is lucky enough to adopt her!

This is Koda. He's a wolf hybrid and HUGE. Probably weighs more than Sean.

He's here for a 1 week board and train refresher and is doing great. Today we focused on meeting other dogs calmly and not jumping up unless invited :)

A common misunderstanding is that dogs only need treats, freedom, and love.

In reality, they need rules, work, and rewards.

Dogs need structure and rules to feel safe and calm.

Affection won't make up for lack of structure and rules.

We cannot emphasize this enough! Dog Training doesn't have a "one size fits all" approach.

Each dog is unique, just like kids (and adults!) What works for one dog won't necessarily work for another.

Early morning wrestling!

Trainer tip: we are using a leash on Lucky (under supervision, never left alone) so that we can stop play quickly if it gets too intense.

It's an important tool especially since she's smaller and younger than the other dogs. If she jumps on them too hard and they get irritated, or if she gets ovetstimlulated/over-excited and needs a short "time out", the leash lets us move her and control the situatuon quickly.

Bottom line: Expect success, but prepare in case issues arise!

After 2 full days of board and train, Lucky was exhausted last night.

It's easy to forget how important mental "work" is for your dog. In between playing, Lucky has been getting a lot of brain work. She's learning obedience (sit, come, down), and how to *stop* playing and sit calmly with other dogs.

Having both physical and mental excersise is key for a calm, balanced, and healthy pup.

Day 2 of Lucky's board and train. She and Natasha are officially best friends, and I'm pretty sure they are plotting. We've been working on having them relax near each other instead of constant wrestling and it's paying off.

This is Lucky. She's a board and train dog staying for 1 week to learn how to be social with dogs, greet people calmly, and not nip people when she plays. We can't confirm, but suspect she's at least 25% mouse (those ears!) We love her and can't wait to work with her!
