We are thrilled to announce that VetMED now offers board-certified anesthesiology services!

Our board-certified anesthesiologist works closely with our other specialists to ensure that each patient receives a sedation or anesthesia plan that is as safe as possible.

Board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists are specialists who focus on providing safe, optimal anesthesia tailored to an individual pet. They are trained to anticipate, recognize, and manage any concerns associated with anesthesia. Fortunately, Dr. Kramer is ready to evaluate your pet's condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

09/22/2023

Many snail and slug poisons contain metaldehyde, which is extremely toxic and even fatal to both dogs and cats. Pets are often attracted to the smell and will likely eat the bait if it’s within reach. Once ingested, metaldehyde impacts the nervous system, resulting in muscle tremors. Pets can die from hyperthermia, respiratory or cardiac collapse.

If you discover your pet recently ate snail bait, bring them to the hospital immediately for emergency care. VetMED is open 24/7 for your pet emergencies. Contact us at (602) 697-4694.

You can also connect with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Pets can be curious, and sometimes that leads to swallowing indigestible objects which can result in a bowel or gastrointestinal obstruction.

The treatment for bowel obstruction can vary and depends on the severity of the condition. In some cases, a blockage may pass on its own. In others, surgery may be required.

Obstructions can be very serious and may even result in death, so it is important to see your veterinarian if you discover or suspect your pet swallowed something indigestible.

VetMED is open 24/7 for your pet emergencies. Contact us at (602) 697-4694.

September is a big awareness month but we can't forget to mention that it's also . Our pets can suffer from pain, just like we do, but sometimes this can go unnoticed. It’s important to look for changes in behavior or signs that they’re experiencing discomfort.

Dogs and cats have different ways of demonstrating pain, but there are some common indicators they both may share. These are just a few of the many ways animals can exhibit pain.

If you have any concerns about your pet, VetMED is open 24/7 - contact us at (602) 697-4694.

It’s and this week is - an important reminder to us all that many people are going through silent struggles. Our very own veterinary health teams are at particularly high risk due to stressful job demands and the emotional toll of providing medical care for animals in need. However, anyone can be susceptible to suicidal thoughts so we should always be mindful and kind to each other.

Did you know 6 minutes is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot vehicle and face lifelong or fatal consequences? β˜€οΈπŸ₯΅ Pets can still overheat even when the windows are down, or if the car is parked in a shaded area.

Our best advice is to not leave your dog in the car - take them with you or leave them at home with plenty of water and shade. They will happily greet you when you return! 😊

With approaching, we want to remind you that many Labor Day festivities and foods can be harmful to our pets. Keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe this holiday weekend with these tips:

β˜€οΈ Beat the heat: Dogs are susceptible to heat stroke. Make sure there is plenty of water and shade for your furry friends to keep cool.
πŸ‘€ Keep an eye on chemicals: Keep pets away from people sunscreen and/or bug spray or any repellents that contain DEET in order to avoid hazardous chemical ingestion.
🍽️ Protect your plate: Many foods we enjoy on Labor Day such as onions, corn cobs, chocolate, grapes, and alcohol can be toxic to pets or pose a choking hazard.
🌊 Lifejackets can be lifesavers: Never leave pets unsupervised by the water, and consider getting a life jacket for your dog.
