Tomorrow we will do a “Pet Blessing” with Buddhist Monks at the EI Dorado Federated Church for Houdini. We have so much to share about our journey in this last month. We have been quite with social media as we have been navigating this difficult path of the end of life for one we have so much respect and love for. Houdini was one of the reasons we formed our rescue in 2015. She showed me that every kitten is worth fighting for and we have been fighting for every animals life we can since.

That’s a Holiday 🎄🎁🎄wrap! A lot of new friends, old friends, family and community coming together to support the B.A.R.N. We had such a fabulous time tonight. We want to extend a huge thank you to Alexa & Nick for inviting us to set up a booth at one of their restaurants, ChxShop AND if that wasn’t enough…additionally donating a portion of tonight’s proceeds to our cause. We are so appreciative of all of you that came out tonight!!! THANK YOU 😊 (Also, if you haven’t been there yet please go check it out. It’s fantastic!)

🤔Question: Do you wonder where your donation goes? 🤔 🌾🐴💥 It’s a lot for us to constantly ask for donations, but we can’t do this on our own.. We appreciate every donation 💚 Every 2 weeks we spend approximately $3K on food and medicines alone for the animals that live here. In addition to that, there is hoof care, vet appointments, broken items that need repair and so many other daily & miscellaneous expenses. Here’s a quick look at some of our expenses and purchases the last two weeks. At UCDVMTH with Houdini. We were able to get her into a clinical trial studying Vinblastine, which is the first drug in the first round of chemotherapy. This means this part of her treatment will be covered. Although, in order to get her into the study she had to have thousands of dollars of diagnostic tests just to determine what she has. It is a stressful time for us. We could use extra prayers and good thoughts for our little lady.

Please be patient with us 🥺 Having an Animal Rescue is not easy. Every day it’s “Boots on the Ground” 🥾🥾🥾…which means that in addition ➕to the daily tasks that already are a full time job 🐴 🌾 🐓 🧽 🧹 🔨 … there is additional worries and circumstances. If I haven’t gotten back to your email ✍️ regarding an animal you you need to re-home 🏡 (which we get daily)…I promise it’s not from a lack of caring. If I haven’t gotten back to you about volunteering…it’s not that we don’t want your help. Please understand it means something else is going on for us and I will get back as soon as I can 🧡 Priority of time ⏰ (and there is such little of it) is ALWAYS given to caring for the animals we have (which means getting food, feeding, cleaning, multiple lengthy vet appointments, getting medication and the overall paying attention to every bit of what they need). Currently, it’s the diagnosis of large cell, lymphocyte lymphoma in one of our younger kitties, Houdini…although (supposedly) a rare diagnosis for a cat without FeLV. Our hearts are broken 💔 and we are navigating our options and the best movement forward for her. Please stay tuned. (Pic is of our girl Houdini today 🐈‍⬛ 🐾)

It was a successful today at the St. Katharine Drexel Church Center with over 60 local charities participating. We love being able to share our mission with our community. Thank you Amador Community Foundation for hosting this event! And thank you to all that came out, shared, donated and learned about local non-profits.

Good Horse Holiday Advice 🤗🧡🐴🍁🫶🏻

As we enter Thanksgiving week in the US, many of your vets will be out of town or spending much needed time with their families.
It’s times like these that horse owners need to practice 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠.

During this holiday time, as an emergency only vet, I recommend the following:

- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 deworm your horse right now.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 start a new feed right now.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 get a new round bale of coastal hay right now if you’ve let the last one go to dust (give small amounts at a time or mix with a stemmy hay until they’ve had their fill, then give the round bale).
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 change schedules.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 vaccinate your horse right now, especially if you have a known reactor.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 be in a rush and fail to soak your feed for long enough (choke risk) - especially if you’re late to feed due to holiday errands/get togethers.
- If you have visitors, limit treats. Ensure gates are closed. Make sure feed doors and bins locked. 𝐁𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥!

There is already a shortage of equine vets - and the few we do have will likely be out of town or trying to enjoy the holiday.

Let’s all have a very 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. And let’s let our vets stay home with family!

At UC Davis Veterinarian Teaching Hospital with Houdini. She’s been throwing up, lethargic, congested, not eating and has very hard, swollen lymph nodes. Say a prayer please for our very special girl 🙏🏼 🐈‍⬛ ❤️

Teeth Floating Day 🦷 for Melody & Harmony 🎵🐴🎶

What is floating and what does it do? To float means to smooth a rough surface. When a horse has its teeth floated the sharp enamel points that have developed on the sides of the teeth are removed leaving a smooth edge. We use an electric float, that looks like a very large nail file/Dremel tool.

Harmony had 2 teeth pulled and will be on antibiotics for the next week.

Today we got the opportunity to share with Rolling Hills Middle School, Hands4Hope Chapter, our mission and goals to SAVE ALL TAILS 🐈 and FEATHERS 🪶 … “One Tail at a Time” 💕 ..Although we know it’s a big task to do, we know that everyday we can inspire and join forces to save more animal’s lives. These kids are our future… and we are here to invest in the future.
