A quick glimpse into what an acupuncture appointment looks like! Cliff has been receiving treatments for back pain and is very relaxed during his sessions - but pets don't always feel quite so relaxed. In addition to the initial calming point, we have a variety of other tools to keep pets comfortable: we hold acupuncture appointments in our Zen Room, which has a separate entrance to avoid the stress of the lobby, and is meant to be a home-like atmosphere with comfortable seating, lighting, relaxing music & aromatherapy.

Garry's cystotomy (bladder stone removal) surgery recap! Garry is now about 10 days post-op and doing great! We have sent his stones out to the Minnesota Urolith Center for analysis - we suspect they are Calcium Oxalate, as they had not previously dissolved with his prescription urinary diet. He is still ruling the roost from his cozy recovery kennel just off the treatment area, keeping a close eye on his minions :)

GARRY UPDATE!! (Part 2) Next up: pre-op bloodwork and x-rays! Since we haven’t x-rayed his bladder stone since February, we want to get a current picture to know what to expect for his surgery. Upon viewing his most recent x-ray, it appears his stone has a couple of it’s own little buddies in there now – these may be new formations, or the original stone may have broken up a bit.
His bloodwork looks great, so he is all set for his cystotomy surgery on the 22nd!

When cats or dogs are having urinary issues, one of the first things we want to rule out is a urinary tract infection (UTI). A RapidBac test lets us know if there is bacteria in the urine within 20 minutes, allowing us to send home antibiotics the same day if needed, without having to wait several days for urine culture results (or avoiding the use of antibiotics if there is no infection!)
