June 6, 2024 -- It has been reported to us that a second bat has tested positive for rabies in the Genoa Township area. Please always take the following precautions if you or your family come in contact with a bat:
🦇 If you can, safely capture the bat then call the Health District at (740) 368-1700. If the bat can be safely captured, it can be euthanized and tested for rabies. Follow these instructions for safe capture: cdc.gov/rabies/bats/contact/capture.html
🦇 If you come into direct contact with a bat, talk with your doctor about appropriate care, especially if the animal cannot be submitted for testing.
🦇 If a pet comes into direct contact with a bat, please contact the Health District about appropriate quarantine and veterinarian care.
🦇 Keep your pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
It's important to note that bat bites can be so small they can go undetected, therefore a person asleep, impaired, mentally disabled or a child may not know they were bitten. If a bat is found in the same room with one of these individuals it is considered an exposure, and you should call your doctor for appropriate care.

A quick glimpse into what an acupuncture appointment looks like! Cliff has been receiving treatments for back pain and is very relaxed during his sessions - but pets don't always feel quite so relaxed. Garry's cystotomy (bladder stone removal) surgery recap! Garry is now about 10 days post-op and doing great! We have sent his stones out to the Minnesota Urolith Center for analysis - we suspect they are Calcium Oxalate, as they had not previously dissolved with his prescription urinary diet. GARRY UPDATE!! (Part 2) Next up: pre-op bloodwork and x-rays! Since we haven’t x-rayed his bladder stone since February, we want to get a current picture to know what to expect for his surgery. Upon viewing his most recent x-ray, it appears his stone has a couple of it’s own little buddies in there now – these may be new formations, or the original stone may have broken up a bit. When cats or dogs are having urinary issues, one of the first things we want to rule out is a urinary tract infection (UTI).
