Our boy Jake had a bath at the Charles City County Animal Shelter this morning. He was so good! I used a special shampoo that is supposed to help with minor skin irritation, which he does have. He seems to be responding really well to the shampoo and oh my does he look handsome. He was licking my face when I was bathing him, I think it felt good to him. Good boy, Jake!

Your Charles City County Animal Shelter at work!

Last Sunday I transported four cats to the Jessica Beath Clinic in Ashland to be neutered as part of Operation Catnip. This is a fantastic volunteer organization that spays and neuters community (feral) cats for free once each month. I have obtained two to five appointments each month for Charles City County.
One of the cats spayed this month has been living at the CCCounty School Bus Depot. She has had multiple litters but was extremely difficult to catch. Thanks to the kindness and efforts of bus driver Jenette Frederick, Mama Cat has been caught and spayed at last! She has been released back to her home environment where Ms. Frederick will continue to watch out for her.

Two of the other cats were trapped at the Roxbury Industrial Center. I set out the traps Saturday after the fair and sure enough Sunday morning we had a big Tom cat and a beautiful dilute tortie female in traps. Business owner Becca Myer has been looking out for these cats and has four kittens at home that she is trying to find homes for. Check out the beautiful photos and message me privately if you are interested in a kitten. We will be doing more trapping at Roxbury to try to begin to get the feral population under control. Your Charles City County Animal Shelter at work!

I was contacted recently by a citizen who needed help with some geese and chickens she can no longer cared for. She sent me photos which I put up on Facebook and within ten minutes we had several offers to come and collect the birds. The very next day a kind citizen came and picked up all the birds to take them to a new home where the geese will have ponds to swim in. Problem easily solved!

Your Charles City County Animal Shelter at work!

We attended the county fair last Saturday and took four wonderful dogs, Lexi, Josie, Brownie, and Lassie. The dogs could not have been better ambassadors! Loads of people and lots of kids stopped by to say hello and Lassie was adopted! A big shout out to the organizers of this impressive event, and a big thank you to volunteers Doug Chandler, Amanda Nester, Annette Roberts, and Katie Rowe. Thanks for a great day!

Your Charles City County Animal Shelter at work!

Last week I transported two dogs and three cats to a new spay and neuter partner, Prevent A Litter or “PAL” in Richmond. I reached out to them and they have graciously reserved spots for 1 male dog, 1 female dog, 3 male cats and 3 female cats each month. The appointments are not free but they are discounted. We will be going back each month! I will let the community know if we have open appointments.
