The Fieldstream Farmhouse turned 100 this year! We are the current caretakers and love our home and the storied property. We have been working diligently to care for the home and return it to its roots as an early 20th century Farmhouse. While we have done some research, we only know a fraction of the property’s history. We do know that the home was built in 1922 by WO Emory and the original address was Lead Mine Rd. The home faces east and surely had a long driveway from Lead Mine Rd. We have been able to trace the land sales back to the 1700’s when property lines were “creeks” and fences and an “iron post” which we have not been able to locate. There is a cool interactive map here https://develop.dtraleigh.com/buildings/in which you can watch the decades of building in our neighborhoods.
The Property sold to EE & Muriel K Carter in the 1930’s when EE Carter was purchasing large plots along the norther corridor in what was House Creek Township and would later become “North Raleigh”. EE Carter owned many businesses in Raleigh and several incorporation documents list this property address including a 5 & Dime Store Downtown, Fieldstream Farms, and National School & Industrial Corp. Over the next 50 years the property was broken up and sold to create the surrounding neighborhoods- Valley Estates, Fieldstream Farms, Ashley Ridge, Lead Mine Lake and more. Some being sold to JJ Lynn. For more than 50 years this was the only home for miles. There is a large Tudor Style Property (Egerton) built in the 1970’s, in the center of our neighborhood in which we believe the Carters Lived for a time. It is listed on many maps as the home of Rev EE and Muriel K Carter. When that home was built, from what we have been able to determine, the Farmhouse was converted into a home for farm hands to serve the farm and care for the horses in the nearby stables. From stories we know the original stables existed when the homes were built on Brushwood Ct and were the last structures to be removed when the Final home was built on Stable Ct in the early 1990’s. There is more to share I’m sure but too much to put here. If you are at all interested, we would love it if our neighbors would come by and take a picture with the home, and sign, and use the hashtag
If you have a story or pictures to share, please do it here as we have only been here for about 6 years and have been unable to find any images of the home prior to our purchase.
Warmest Regards,
Brian & Chris Murray-Perry
