First trip outside to play and get a sponge bath.

We had our first outside adventure today. It was time for a sponge bath so we took it outside. We were only outside for about 10 minutes, but that was enough. They each got a quick sponge bath while the others nursed standing up. They came in exhausted and fell asleep immediately. These little babes are still too young for full baths or to play outside for too long. A lot will change for them in the next 4 weeks but we don’t push them too fast.

Look at these cuties looking so dashing and beautiful! Today they are 3 weeks old! They are learning to find their voices, how to play with their siblings and Auntie Luna, how to give kisses on your nose, and how to walk a little stronger. This week we started focusing on sound introductions. Over the course of their time here they will be introduced to a multitudes of sounds that will hopefully prepare them for all they will hear out in the world. Our purpose with this is to empower the puppies to take on whatever comes their way. We also started handling exercises today. Right now this is very gentle but will eventually become rougher as we prepare them for being handled by their new families. Everything we work on is to empower the puppy.

Our two yellow ribboned girls are really looking a lot alike. Here is Belle at 3 weeks and Dove at 2 weeks. She looks just like her mama. ❤️🐾 Although Dove started out weighing more than Belle, she has not grown as quickly as Belle did. At two weeks she is about a half a pound less than Belle was at her age.

These babes are growing like crazy! They have all more than doubled their birth weight now. This week they’ve been working on learning how to put their back legs under them to start walking, opening their eyes so they can see the world, and their ears are starting to open. It’s been a busy week and it’s just beginning. This week we finish up our Early Scent Introduction and Early Neurological Stimulation. We will also start handling exercises to get the pups used to being handled.

Puppy noses start pink and gradually turn black or brown. We have some of the litter already with their darker noses and some barely speckled. They’re so cute as their freckled noses get more spots on them everyday. Shown: Fox with mostly pink nose. Poppy with mostly pink nose. Dove and Oakley with black noses. Finch with almost completely black nose.

These beauties are a week old today! This week they have spent hours upon hours sleeping and nursing, but they’ve also been challenged through and . They have been introduced to garlic, peppermint, oregano, and bay leaf so far. They have also gained a collective total of 45.2 oz. Our biggest puppy is Fox and our smallest puppy is Dove. Their little personalities are starting to come out as well. Fox, Clover, and Poppy are our most vocal. Finch, Bear, Reed, and Dove are so cuddly. Oakley is often found sleeping when the others are nursing. Belle is doing an amazing job as mama. Annie helps as grandma, but has calmed down a lot and will often not even pay attention if she hears the pups crying. She’s now happy to let Belle care for her babies.

Today we started early neurological stimulation and early scent identification. We do this from day 3 to day 16. Doing these exercises early in their life has many benefits.

Tactical stimulation: use a cotton swab between each toe.
Hold upright with head erect.

Hold in a supine position.
Place onto cold, wet towel for thermal stimulation.

Pick a different scent found in the environment to see how the puppy interacts. Today’s scent was fresh peppermint.

Oakley (dark green) is our best sleeper, but that also means we have to be extra vigilant to make sure he gets enough food.
Annie is starting to settle down a little. You’ll see the pics she even brought her “babies” (the rubber balls) in the whelping box with her.

Something I didn’t anticipate was Annie being jealous of Belle. I’m not sure how she’ll do as the days go by, but right now she is whining and carrying around this ball and licking it like it’s a puppy. She’s been very pathetic all afternoon and it breaks my heart that she’s so sad about not being a mom this time. I’m encouraging her to take on her “grandma” roll, but I don’t think she’s ready to embrace being a grandma at her young age of 6. 😂

It was a long night watching and waiting and we ended up driving to the reproductive vet this morning after labor didn’t progress fast enough for me. I thought for sure we were going to have to do a c-section, but thankfully the vet said everything was moving along and to finish whelping at home. Almost as soon as we got back from the vet Belle started pushing. After 2 1/2 hours we have 8 beautiful puppies! Stay tuned for the theme and their litter names. Belle did an amazing job!!! Thank you to my amazing helpers and .5! They were fabulous with anticipating all the needs.

Mama Belle has just a little under 3 weeks left of pregnancy. She’s been extra cuddly, extra hungry, and extra sleepy. And her waistline has completely disappeared overnight. We’re getting excited to start counting down the days until puppies arrive!

We had an in home ultrasound tonight and got confirmation of Belle’s pregnancy!! May 19th is her due date. We will get a puppy count when we go for X-rays in a few weeks.

Meet Hamilton. 🐾 Hamilton and Belle met each other today to see if they would be a good fit together. We are excited about the beautiful puppies these two will make. On top of passing all his health tests and having an outstanding personality, Hamilton is a registered therapy dog and has all the genetic markers we’re looking for to give our pups that perfect doodle look including loose wavy curls, furnishings on the face, red fur, and of course those beautiful white markings (Parti). If all goes as planned we will have some pups coming soon. 🤞 💕 🐾

Happy 1st birthday to our Christmas Cookie litter! These beautiful babes were born in the late hours of November 26th and the very early hours of November 27th. They have split birthdays. We love you Charlie, Harvey, Gator, Peanut, Tilly, Sugar, Selah, and Kobi!! Happy birthday! 🎉🎈🎊

We had our first family reunion play date today. It was so fun to see the pups playing together. You could tell they knew they were family. We had Maverick, Archie, Chevella, Stitch, and Belle from the Disney litter. Tilly, Peanut, Gator, Selah, Kobe, and Harvey came to play from the Cookie litter. Annie took on her motherly role of disciplining puppies but did eventually play. A special thanks to Michelle for hosting!

We’ve had fun puppy sitting Peanut this weekend. It’s always fun to see how the pups react to being back in their first home. This time we had another puppy to play with. Luna is going to miss Peanut she goes home. Belle and Annie have also enjoyed having an extra playmate. Peanut has grown so much but she definitely looks huge next to Luna.

Annie and Belle got a new sister last week. The loss of Auntie Napa has been hard on everyone and, while we can’t replace Napa, we are hoping this cute girl will be a fun playmate, especially for Belle who spent her mornings and afternoons playing with Napa. Meet Luna the cavapoo puppy. We love cavaliers and we love poodles, but we’ve never owned a cavapoo. Annie and Belle are still warming up but they have moments of playing and snuggling. The plan is for Luna to be well established in our home by the time we welcome Belle’s first litter (coming later this year if all testing goes well 🤞).
