Horses with pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), formerly known as equine Cushing's disease, should exercise regularly to help manage clinical signs and maintain overall health. While every horse will have different exercise needs, riding, lunging and hand-walking are all good ways to keep your horse moving.

Ensuring that your horse is consuming a proper diet is one of the components to managing pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), formerly known as equine Cushing's disease. While every horse's dietary needs are different, testing your hay and feeding a diet low in NSCs can help maintain normal insulin levels.

Contact us for more information on managing PPID in your horse.

Disease-carrying mosquitoes not only annoy your horses, but they can also infect them with diseases such as West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis and Western Equine Encephalitis. When possible, avoid early morning and early evening grazing when mosquitoes are most active. Help protect your horses against these diseases by staying current on vaccinations. Call us for other barn biosecurity measures.

They should also be quarantined from the rest of the horses for 2 – 3 weeks and have their temperatures checked every 12 hours for the duration of the quarantine period. Call us for other barn biosecurity measures.
