Happy Independence day! Please remember that even if your dog has been sound trained when the celebrating really good going it can still be a bit much for their sensitive years. Melatonin CBD and or the comfort of their owner will help greatly. If this can't be done please leave your animal in a safe place, a good example of when crate training can come in handy!

Part 1

GSD Specialist dog judges are aware that the breed standard states that the back (thoracolumbar spine) should be straight. If it is convex (curved), most judges refer to it as being 'roached' or 'not straight'.

Whilst this is certainly much better than stating a curved back is straight, it is important that the 'back' is seen as being impacted by the relative height of the anticlinal region to the withers height and being in two parts, thoracic and lumbar, in order for the 'fault' to be appropriately addressed, discussed, and dealt with.

The GSD spine 'developmental time frame' can be viewed in four parts, but as with all things, it is variable in its degree and impact visually and biomechanical, i.e. there are intermediate variations between the four dogs.

1 - anticlinal region low
2 - anticlinal region mid-height
3 - anticlinal region too high
4 - anticlinal region too high with a downward lumbar spine bend

The separation of the thoracic spine from the lumbar spine is important in this matter in order to appreciate the impact this development has on the withers definition—greatly accentuated to no definition—and the withers efficiency. It creates a peak in the back, steepens the croup angle, and impacts hindquarter efficiency. It goes without saying, that the impact in terms of biomechanics is the most complex aspect of the development and for anyone seriously interested in dogs, particularly trotting dogs, this is the most interesting aspect.

'Unfortunately'—in my opinion—the fourth stage is now in the developmental process of consolidation in Germany via inbreeding/concentration on a very small number of German VA dogs and lines. The full impact of that in terms of 'inbreeding depression' will not be fully realized for many years to come!

Over 40 years and I don't think I've had four letters in a row not happen. Frustrated beyond belief and it has to be the dog food because they're coats aren't doing great either even with all the supplements. So I will do what I did 40 years ago and start making my own dog food I quit doing that in the 90s but I'm going back to it

Hello, I have been training the breed I love the most, since 1984! I belonged to Schutzund USA for almost ten years, (back in the day). Along with running my own working kennel, I managed a GSD import kennel for almost 15 years. Back in the day (when I was a younger gal) I trained obedience, tracking and protection, was the leader of a 4-H group, showed in obedience, and bred top quality dogs. During those years I was lucky enough to put working titles on 14 different dogs!

Things are alittle slower these days, and I only have one fantastic female! My-Ahh had already compiled 16 different working titles and certifications, before her 4th BDay! She is also my working service dog, balance and mobility and she will pick up anything ( within reason) that I tell her take and bring me, including bring me one tissue out of the box on command! She is a amazing dog and up to this point has been giving her pups her intelligence and her drive to please humans! By July 2018 we have achieved; BN, PN, CD, RN, RA,RE, RAT, RATS, TKD,TKDI, HIC, HCT, TDI, CGC,CGCA,CGCU, and her GSDCWS TC! Stay in touch with my kennel page and follow as My-Ahh and I go after the next titles in line ( She is ready for her CDX, Barn Hunt Senior,( one more leg to go) the trick dog advanced, and the Rally Masters class, not to mention she could start gaining Scent dog titles when ever we find the time! I do all my own training and occasionally will take on a outside training job. We also do aoccasional bardinh in the indoor outdoor kennel that My-Ahh ony is in when she has pups on the ground the ground! LOL

My-Ahh gives me beautiful and intelligent puppies that we sell to the general public, a nice percentage actually end up in working and or service homes. To me the temperment is first and formost on my breeding requirements, and then we work on the conformation, paying close attention to helping work out flaws in the breed. These pups are perfect for service homes, and make great sport dogs, not to mention what fanstastic family members they make!
