To save time and to keep the pups from waiting, we’re doing our walks two at a time. For us, this starts by having two dogs that have learned how to walk well on the leash, and then matching energy levels.

📍After a few sessions of proper socialization, these two have been able to “figure it out” a little bit more.
📍Knowing when to step in and advocate for each dog involved is essential to having your puppies/ dogs being able to play appropriately.

Here’s a little flashback of Kiera the yesterday working around what used to be a trigger for her. She doesn’t have to sit or down. She’s just being rewarded for being calm and coming when called.

Heidi the got a little workout in before we take it inside for the night. A couple of days ago, she wasn’t a huge fan of walking by someone’s side.

King the is enjoying a walk before his mid day session. Exercise before learning is often very effective because at the end, gratification is very high. This helps because in return, we’re able to positively reinforce calm behavior easier and frequently.

If you saw the video of Maggie’s first time coming out, you can see that this is a huge change. We aren’t quite using commands, but she has a much better understanding about what is being asked of her. And that tail is wagging!!! The best thing that you can do for your dog is to be predictable.

Tiller has an awesome trip to Lowe’s today and we were sure not to touch anything. He came for his human reactivity and just overall being unsure about new people. During trips like this, our goal is not to go around saying hi to everyone, but to show him that it’s ok for other people to be able to exist in the same room or area 👌 @ Lowe's Home Improvement

It ain’t easy being Tiller 😎

While Tiller is with us, he’s learning impulse control and ensuring behaviors for when he really needs them. Practice, practice, practice the things your dog needs to work on before you worry about how they do in public.

Why do we practice the recall so much? It can be a life saving skill. We use it to refocus a dog that could possibly be running out of a front door, chasing a squirrel into traffic, or going to greet another animal that may not be so nice. Mochi came in because she was reactive on the leash when she saw other dogs. We are training the recall so that she has a skill to use when she is uncomfortable.

I think it’s safe to say that Mochi enjoyed her day at the park. We took this visit to work on her focus under distractions and letting her see that we can exist when other dogs are around. And of course, lots of tummy rubs 😉

Cheers to Ippo for doing an excellent job so far. He’s been enrolled in our Puppy Prep School for a few weeks now and has been improving at every lesson. We worked distractions today and his puppy parents rocked it!!
