Bay Area Bird & Exotics Hospital is an exclusively exotics practice located in San Francisco, CA.

Full Time (4 days a week) or Part Time (2-3 days a week).

We've been located in the outer sunset/parkside area of SF since 1989 and provide care for birds, rabbits, rodents and reptiles. While birds have always been the foundation of our practice, exotic companion mammals are increasing in popularity...and thus in frequency.

No dogs or cats allowed!

You do not need extensive exotic experience - Dr Marcucci is an Avian ABVP diplomat and is willing to train. The previous owner Dr Dustin has retired but remains available to help mentor. Newer graduates will be considered however, experience with dogs and cats (or other mammals) provides a good base to launch into exotics.

Exam times are usually 30 minutes (with 15 minute rechecks) and we set aside a 3 hour block for procedures in the middle of the day during the week. The practice is currently open 5 days a week - appointments are from 9:30-5:30 pm on weekdays - we plan to reopen for Saturdays and would consider Sunday hours if that is what you are looking for. Initial training or "ramp up to release" will depend on experience level with exotics.

Do you have a special interest you'd like to bring to the practice? Are you considering becoming board certified? BABH is always working to stay current and welcomes new skills and ideas.

Not interested in city life? We are in easy reach of smaller or more suburban locations such as Pacifica, Los Altos, Sunnyvale, Daly City...

Interested candidates are encouraged to send their cover letter and resume to:

In a study by Jones and Roper, chickens preferred the scent of Vanillin compared to other scents. Subsequent studies showed that chicks exposed to Vanilla showed less stressed when moved to new environments scented with Vanillin. This included increased appetite, preening, and environmental exploration. Have you tried olfactory enrichment with your flock?
