Labor Day weekend is here! Before summer officially comes to a close, we want to remind pet parents that many traditional Labor Day festivities and foods can harm our furry friends. Keep your pets happy, safe and healthy this (and every!) weekend by following these tips:

Beat the heat. Although it’s September, the weather is still be scorching. Animals can become dehydrated quickly, so be sure your pets are getting plenty of water. Make sure there are plenty of shady spots for your pet to escape the sun, and avoid letting your pup linger on hot asphalt.

Protect your plate. While it may be tempting to spoil your pet with some scraps from the grill, remember that any changes to your pet’s diet could result in severe digestive ailments. Keep them away from raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate and sugar-free products made with the sweetener xylitol, as these holiday favorites are toxic to pets.

Guard the grill. In addition to keeping pets away from the food on the grill, be sure to keep them away from the tools (that may have food on it!) and matches. Certain types of matches contain chlorates which, if ingested, can damage blood cells and result in breathing difficulties or kidney disease.

Life jackets can be lifesavers. If you’ll be boating or spending time by the water, never leave your pets unsupervised. Just like with people, it’s easy for your dog to develop a leg cramp while swimming, become exhausted too far from shore or get overwhelmed by tides. Please consider purchasing a life jacket for your dog.

Don’t forget about the fireworks. Unfortunately, fireworks and pets just don’t mix. Loud noises can be very frightening for pets. In fact, many pets go missing after being scared by loud noises. Keep your pet pals calm and safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area. ❤️🇺🇸 🐾🩺 🍑

Did you know that we partner with Renegade Paws Rescue to help the pets in our community? Even on a normal day, they can always use donations! Below is a list of some things they need at this time. Drop them off with us and we will make sure they get them!

SUNDAY EVENING UPDATE: You guys are amazing! Our cats are covered. We still have some dogs that prefer to be the only pet or require an experienced foster. If that’s you, let us know!

Fosters for cats and dogs, prepping supplies, and animal supplies are needed. After the last storm brought flooding to the Renegade office we are taking preparations to keep everyone safe.

‼️Sand bags! We are currently using pillow cases too as sandbags have been hard to find. Manpower here is also appreciated

‼️Temporary fosters needed! There are still a few adult dogs who can go to fosters and we also have puppies, cats, and a mamma dog about to give birth who could benefit from a foster during the storm!

‼️Latest weather update from local source Enki Research:

TS Debby continues to gain organization and intensity this morning, expected to make landfall on the coast of Florida mid-day on Monday as a Category One hurricane.

On the Georgia/South Carolina coast as the decaying storm will likely stall, winds will be gusty and this will drop a lot of rain starting Monday morning and persisting until Friday morning.

Feel free to drop off supplies anytime and fill out a foster application if you’re interested in being a storm foster.
