Recently, one of our kitty families shared a tragic story about their mom’s cat, who developed a severe injection site sarcoma after receiving a rabies shot. This cancer was so aggressive that even removing the leg couldn’t save the precious kitty. 💔

While rabies vaccines are mandatory in most states, **not all vaccines are the same**, and many pet owners aren’t aware of the safer options available.

🌟 **Here’s what you need to know:**
1. **Non-Adjuvanted Rabies Vaccines:** These vaccines are formulated without adjuvants, which are substances added to boost the immune response but have been linked to injection site sarcomas in rare cases. Talk to your vet about using this safer option like PUREVAX.
2. **If a Non-Adjuvanted Vaccine isn’t available:** Some veterinarians recommend opting for the **three-year rabies vaccine** instead of the annual version. This helps to reduce the amount of adjuvant your kitty is exposed to while still complying with rabies laws.
3. **Injection Site:** Request that the vaccine be administered **as low on the limb as possible**. This ensures that if a reaction occurs, there are more treatment options.
