We wanted to thank Kim for spending 4 weeks with us! She just finished her first year of vet school at U of I. We enjoyed hosting her as the first of 2 interns this summer where she got to do her first (of many) solo surgeries, helped lots with large animal patients and seen small animal patients during office hours. We wish her well in her second year and will see her back soon over winter break!

Ever seen ear mites up close? These tiny creepy crawlers are a common cause of itchy ears in our furry friends! Heres some (not so) fun facts about one of our least favorite hitchhikers: 1️⃣ Ear mites can infect dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets but thankfully they're not a fan of humans! 2️⃣ They reproduce *fast* with a lifespan of only about 2 months ear mite populations can go from a single individual to thousands in just a few days! 3️⃣ They are the second most common external parasite that infect our pets, just behind fleas 4️⃣ They're (unfortunately) resilient! No medication can affect a developing mite while they're in an egg so long lasting treatments are needed to kill off all the adults 5️⃣ They're easy to diagnose! With just a quick look under the microscope we can tell you if your pet has mites or not and get them set up with treatment!
