Sweet Hazel is in her new home ❤️

It has been QUITE the journey with this mare. She’s been the most challenging mustang yet with lots of out of the box thinking and new approaches. But I’m incredibly proud of the horse she’s become. From a terrified panel crasher who refused to look at people to the ultimate snuggle bug who follows you down fence lines begging for pets, from a bolter who’d drag you across the arena to a saddle horse doing rein-less stops from a canter in front of a huge crowd — she’s literally done a 180°!

Hazel will now be living in Beaver Creek, OR with her new family. She will thrive in her new home and they love her already!

And last video, Trail!

Feel free to skip over the first minute or so. It’s our second ever attempt at a gate (first being in the warm up arena about half an hour before) so I was just attempting to show that she’s patient while also trying to sneakily get it closed 😂 the rest of the course? Knocked it out of the park!! The scary banner and bridge that were scaring the other horses didn’t phase her one bit, and she got her side passes even though she only learned them officially about two weeks ago! I was so impressed by how she was listening and in tune with me ❤️

Western pattern from today!

I’m SO proud of this girl. She was so relaxed, she helped calm my nerves 😂 She knew it was game time! Way to go Hazel ❤️

Showmanship and Body Conditioning are DONE!

For starting showmanship practice last week (yes I forgot about showmanship!), and being in a completely new arena with lots of people, she smoked it 🔥

Body Conditioning went just as well! She ground tied perfectly for picking up feet, stood to be caught by a new person, and loaded up into the trailer and backed out beautifully.

So proud of this girl!

Hazel is here and all settled in!

125 days after pickup, Hazel is cruising around the warm up arena with only 26 rides, and I couldn’t be prouder ❤️ I didn’t quite reach my goal of 30 rides before competition, but we MIGHT get there before riding classes on Saturday!

This is only the second time Hazel has ever hauled out anywhere! She hasn’t whinnied or been overly anxious, thank goodness! The stall is not her favorite and she’s doing a bit of pacing, but she is settling down as the day goes on and with exercise. Sure, walls are scary and new people require and extra look, but Hazel has kept her brain and is doing fantastic!

I’ll be around all weekend, if you want to meet Hazel just send me a PM! She loves people and is happy to receive pets from all those willing.

Looking for a pretty horse loaded with potential?Transport can be arranged to anywhere! Hazel stands 14.3hh but will continue to grow and fill out. She is just over 100 days out of the corrals and has made incredible progress since then. She has just over 20 rides, all the basics (stands for farrier, trailers, bathes, etc.), and has a solid foundation under saddle.

This girl is TALENTED. She’s the smartest horse I’ve started and retains everything. With the right hand, she could take you to the top!

She is showing incredible promise in many different disciplines. I see her thriving in both the English or Ranch world! She can extend her trot like no other and can also stop on a dime. She has natural head carriage to boot! She also would make a killer endurance horse as she will go all day if you want her too! She is so versatile and willing to please that she will probably be able to do any discipline you please.

Hazel is a sweet and sensitive mare. Her ideal new adopter would be one who has experience with green horses and can help Hazel continue to build her confidence both under saddle and on the ground. Hazel has relaxed tremendously since adoption and is very much enjoying domestic life! However, she still has reactive moments and needs her person she can bond with and keep growing her trust in. She loves cuddles and will definitely form a close bond with her adopter. She greets you at the fence and follows you around the pasture. I can see Hazel thriving with an experienced youth or young adult who is looking for a horse to bring along with loads of potential.

From a few rides ago… but look what’s missing!

Reins are important of course, but I always strive to get the mustangs riding off legs and seat primarily as best as possible. Hazel is no exception. She is INCREDIBLY in tune to my body position and voice, and I love it!!

To say Hazel I’d enjoying domestic life might be an understatement!

Sweet Hazel got her first massage last week and she LOVED it. Three times during the session she was so relaxed she literally lost her spit. Not just drooled, we are talked a quarter cup of salvia just pouring out of her mouth 😂 She stood patiently the whole time and enjoyed every minute!

Central OR people, if you’re looking to get your horse relaxed and feeling good Nicole Perez can help you out!! She is a Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist, and she definitely knows her way around horses and getting them feeling good. I got to ride Hazel a few days later, and she was feeling so good and extra relaxed!!

Some quick pics and a clip from our ride last night!! Caught a beautiful sunset too!

24 rides down for Hazel, hoping to get to 30 before haul in but we will see how that goes 😂 just working on refining our transitions and our smaller movements like haunch turns, sidepassing, and two tracking!

Anyone looking for ranch horse/roping potential?

Not only does Hazel have the athleticism and the brakes, but she also took to the swinging rope in ONE session. She’s sniffed it before, but not once have I ever picked it up and swung it. In less than 10 minutes we were loping and swinging. Recoiling, riding with a loop built, all of it she nailed with ease!! Even dragging a log she handled like a pro.

Check out the second video to see how she handled my amateur rope skills and me absolutely smacking her in the face 🤣 disclaimer, I do not claim to be a roper by any means. I’m YouTube taught solely for the purpose of introducing my mustangs to it. But on the bright side, sloppy ropers like myself make great and desensitized mustangs 😂

First farrier visit was a success!!!

She has the perfect mustang feet everyone hopes for. They are rock hard and the perfect shape (farriers words, not mine!).

Hazel finally for her feet done today! Not for her lack of willingness, she’s been ready for a WHILE! But simply because didn’t need it! Even without a trim this whole time, she only needed her front feet trimmed slightly and her back feet only needed a rasp.

Sweet Hazel knocked her trim out of the park, and stood very well the whole time with the exception of a few loss of balance moments. She used the hoof stand for front and back feet and was great with the knife, nippers, and rasp.

Huge shoutout to Bailey Davis for helping out and giving Hazel her first trim! Bailey was so wonderful with both Hazel and Toby Keith (my sisters horse). She not only gave great trims, but the horses liked her too! If you’re local to Central OR, please check her out!

I hoped this video would turn out a little clearer, but it’s adorable nonetheless! Hazel has been getting a lot of pasture time since I’m working so much. Last night I went to say hi to here and she trotted up the fence, so enthusiastic for lovings! Then she started chasing me around the pasture for more which was even more adorable 😂

This girl really bonds to her person and has a heart of gold!

She’s turning out to be so versatile! Only 16/17ish rides, and there are already so many directions her new owner could take her. Apparently ranch riding might be one of them 😍 Way to slide Hazel!!

Miss Hazel is still doing so well!! I started a new job and have been so busy with that, so she’s been a bit on the back burner. She’s still been handled every day and ridden a few times as well!

I’ll do a larger update soon, but here are some quick pics of her helping babysit our baby horse Paisley! Hazel does SO well with the mom and baby and is easy to catch in our big pasture!

Hazel is feeling really good! She’s getting the hang of being under saddle SO quick. She can W/T/C both leads, stops, two tracks, haunch turns and forehand turns, and transition up and down gaits all in 10 rides! And she carries herself so pretty while doing it 😍

Ride 7 with Hazel! 🤎

So proud of this sweet girl!! She is so soft and willing to please. She had 3 entire days off (seriously not a thing besides eating pasture grass and eating hay!) and didn’t miss beat!

We haven’t worked on driving into the bit at all, but she naturally wants to give such nice natural carriage. When we first got her, I figured she would always be high headed. Turns out she just needed some muscle tone 🤣 And yes, I will definitely put an English saddle on her at some point!! She can trot 😍
