For less than a $125 investment into netting, heavy duty steel fittings, Schedule 40 galvanized pipe, pipe hangers, and misc. hardware, you can repurpose almost any shipping crate into a hay saving, slow feeder.

This crate cost $20 and will hold up to 4 small bales or 8 flakes from a large square...not a bad hay feeding solution for under $150.

Everything but the pipe and shipping crate can be ordered from diynets.net

The feeders for large rounds and squares, do the horses ever pull the net out of the feeder, especially when most of the hay is gone? I have two shod horses so I need to be sure they can't get their feet in the net.
