Clayton Productions was founded July of 1981 in Salt Lake City, Utah as a private entertainment school for youth under the direction of D. Clayton has seen nearly 6,000 youth walk through his doors to become a part of the magical world of song, dance, voice, showmanship and performance. The nationally recognized fourteen performing organizations, six dance companies and vocal performance students

at Clayton Productions range in age from 3-27 years. Each performer and student has been careful selected through an audition process because of his/her talents, commitment to excellence and desire to learn and share their musical gifts with people of the world. Clayton Productions focuses on personal self-esteem, individual growth, professionalism and developing talents. The repertoire of the performing organizations includes high energy songs and dance routines from Broadway to Country, Pop to Funk, Swing to Musical Theater, visiting popular eras such as Rock 'n' Roll of the 50's, Roaring 20's, Big Band Era of the 40's, Salutes to the 70's and 80's and of course... the hits of today. Familiar favorites from Broadway musicals such as Big River, The Wiz, Salutes to Disney, West Side Story, Newsies, Grease, City of Angels, Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Starlight Express, Wicked etc. are also on their agenda (all music arranged and written by D. Kim Clayton specifically for these productions). Groups from Clayton Productions have performed in such places as Walt Disney World, The White House, Pentagon, Kings Dominion, Taste of Chicago, Ilikai Hotel, BYU Hawaii, Embarcadero Sea World, Disneyland, McDonald's World Youth Classic, England, Scotland, Wales, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic and Venezuela to name just a few. Clayton's students have also performed as leads, support roles and extras in Network Television, Movies, Music Videos, National and Local Television/Radio Commercials, LDS Church Videos, Cable Television, Local and Community Theatrical Productions, Lagoon's Music USA and BYU's Young Ambassadors and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Because we see so many negative influences in our world of today, it is refreshing to experience a program that is positive, professional, uplifting and yet still contains all of the entertaining qualities of "Showbiz". To be totally up front and honest I need some help! The longer it's been since the studio shut down, the more difficult it is to bring in new students to be a part of these wonderful programs. I get it...the younger kids I taught are now graduating from high school! The older students are now busy with marriage, careers, missions, college, etc!

If I could ask all former students, families, friends and relatives to share information I would appreciate it.

In my head I'm still young and relevant! So, if you would, please share this information and hopefully put in a good word. It's a fabulous show and still has more life in it! (pun intended)

REASONS TO REGISTER AS PART OF OUR FREAKY FRIDAYS CAST:

I began producing Freaky Fridays over 20 years ago. It began as an idea to keep the youth performing and busy during seemingly “down” times.

At the time, I was running Clayton Institute for the Performing Arts where, over decades, we instructed over 7,000 students in the arts of voice, dance, stage presence, musical theater, a ca****la music etc (it’s a long list).

I had thought that Freaky Fridays might just be fun for students. Little did I know that it would explode and grow into a yearly production that young people flock to year after year.

Each year Freaky Fridays becomes a sellout show. We typically do 2 shows per night on Fridays during the month of October. Thus, Freaky Fridays. (there are some exceptions).

The production itself is a 45-minute wall to wall singing and dancing experience, visiting Halloween music and dance throughout the years. It is a spoof on Halloween. We take the production seriously. However, we seek to provide audiences and the cast with the knowledge that Halloween is but fun and games.

We divide the production learning into 3 age brackets: 5th - 8th grade, 9th - 12th grade, College PLUS. When all the material is learned, we then bring the entire organization together and create a full, non-stop Halloween production.

The presentation is positive and full of life! (no pun intended)
Whether a boy or girls’ talents are singing, dancing, or both, or even if they just love to perform, there are opportunities group wise and as soloists for everyone.

First time for Jackson (Vanessa’s youngest) at a Utah basketball game. So fun to spend time with my grandson. He loved it! Utes won big, Brandon Carlson was his favorite player (only scored 30 tonight) and so he got to meet him! Brandon was wonderful. Why? Chris Burgess is my nephew and was so very gracious about everything. Thanks Chris. Great game! Here’s to the years that lie ahead with children and grandchildren. It brought back so many memories.

Hon sa att hon faktiskt var ett år äldre. det skulle göra mig ett år äldre ... nästan sjuttio. Förtumlad! Wow, jag trodde att sjuttio var uråldrigt. Jag antar att det är det ... jag är gammal. I made the mistake today of going online on Twitter. I thought I would look up some sports. All I found was upheaval and discord. I came away needing to find my center, my understanding of what Christmas is about, and remember that the term “Christian” meant to be a follower of Christ.

As is typical for me, I sought music as my private place, my place of solace. I listened to a song sung by an a ca****la group named Voctave. It’s one of my favorites.

Tonight was bitter sweet. This picture will be a treasured one for me. We came together tonight to rehearse, “Prayer of the Children”. They will be singing it at a funeral tomorrow.

A few days ago I received a message that rocked my world (by Brian Gourley , his brother). One of my former students, Matt Gourley, had passed away. It was sudden…it was brief…and then he was gone.

When I went to the viewing tonight, it was emotional. Such a shock for that family. I cannot imagine the pain they were enduring, knowing what I was feeling.

As I moved to the casket, one of Matt’s daughters was online (the phone) while still in the mission field. This was the first time she had seen her father. I was overwhelmed. It felt like I was intruding on a moment sacred to this beautiful family.

Matt will be missed. Of all students that I have taught over the decades, Matt will go down as one of the most selfless, humble, and compassionate ones I have ever encountered. Dennis and Diane Gourley, bask in the knowledge of who Matt was. You have done well.

The people in the picture are like my own children. I love them deeply. The experiences we’ve shared over the years have created a beautiful and special bond. Thank you Mike & Amy Williams, Julie Knight, John & Hillary Young, Ryan & Missy Omer, and Andy Dollar.

Life is fragile. I was reminded tonight that everyday needs to be treated as if it were my last. To live…to love…to share…to hope…to embrace…and to say, “I love you.”

There’s always a period of time after I’ve set up for our a capella concert at Cottonwood Presbyterian Church where I just sit alone, in the quiet and feel. I’ve traveled the world and sung and/or visited some amazing cathedrals and churches. Last night, it was the Tabernacle on Temple Square, with its glorious acoustics. But right now, there is a sense of peace here. I am grateful that I have been given talents to share with others. Come and enjoy the beautiful and warming spirit of the music that Harmony will be performing tonight. 7:30 pm - Cottonwood Presbyterian Church - 1580 East Vine Street (6100 So) - the concert is free.

I said at that time that I would always keep the door open for "specials". Well, that time has arrived! Announcing the return of the fabulous production, FREAKY FRIDAYS! Taking registration for students' grades 6th through College+ Boys and Girls, singers and dancers.
