Please be mindful of wildlife on or near roadways...

An adult Bald Eagle (24-2830) was admitted yesterday after it was found in the road dragging itself by its wings in North Fort Myers. Lee County Domestic Animal Control Services rescued the bird and brought it to BluePearl Pet Hospital, one of our drop locations, and a CROW volunteer then transported the Eagle to our clinic. Upon admission, the Eagle had significant spinal trauma due to the suspected vehicle collision. The patient was put under anesthesia (shown in the picture) for full radiographs confirming the Eagle’s severe spinal trauma and the permanent paralysis of the patient. Due to the fact that the bird would never be able to stand nor regain function of its legs, it was with heavy hearts that our veterinary team determined humane euthanasia was the only treatment for this patient. Given the severity of the damage to the spinal cord and permanent paralysis, it was not a candidate for placement as a captive bird in an educational zoological facility.

The Eagle was unbanded and suspected adult male (due to size and x-rays). There is no way for us to specifically identify the Eagle, however, it was found several miles outside of the typical territory of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam nest.

SHARE, TAG RESCUES, AND CONSIDER BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT! HAVE QUESTIONS? WE CAN HELP!

Bella is such a perfect little dog but her foster mom is leaving soon and unable to keep her! We really don't have anywhere for her to go if nobody steps up to foster or foster to adopt or if we don't find a rescue willing to take her on.

Bella does have special needs with her mobility as she suffered a paralysis injury when she was surrendered to the rescue. She can use wheels but prefers to identify as a land seal and run around showing off her super cool one of a kind flippers! She loves other dogs and cats and enjoys strutting her stuff in her fashionable diapers her foster mom gets for her. Bella deserves a home where she can thrive even more and shower you with the love she has!

His pacemaker. After a few phone calls Nashville Veterinary Specialists said they would appreciate the donation to help save the life of someone’s pet.

Did you know:
If you have a pacemaker, you can put it in your Will to have your pacemaker donated to a dog in need after you pass. Pacemakers cannot be donated to another human, but they can be donated to dogs with cardiac issues who would depend on it to stay alive.
You can have the pacemaker brought to a vet of your choice. So many of those get thrown away and dogs die because people don't know they can do this. It even saves the dog's owner the cost of the actual pacemaker which sometimes means the difference in being able to afford lifesaving treatment or not.

"Aftereffects" of playtime outside before storms move in... Kane and his "niece" Sadie are here for a staycation! Hiro and Harley go home tomorrow. All of the beds will be full tonight!

Our foster puppies Banyan and Rowan have met two more new (to them) dogs this week! Hiro arrived yesterday and Harley just got here! Hiro can only have time in the yard to take care of potty breaks due to severe grass allergies. You can hear him "protesting" from the back porch because he wanted to check out Harley some more!

Welcome the first of our brand new ducklings! Official hatch time 12:25 pm today 3/22/24 ❤

Baby was hard at work last night! Look at his egg rocking! I haven't seen a pip on the egg beside this one yet, but that duckling entered the air cell of his egg yesterday. 3rd egg has a little longer to go still.

Look who did GREAT overnight with Momma ❤ incubator baby ❤ I took him to the pen around 11:30 last night, once he was dry. (He hatched around 8:45 pm.) I stayed in the pen for about 20 minutes to be sure he would be accepted. The siblings picked on him a little, but lost interest quickly. Then I monitored on camera from inside the house for another hour. I was so happy to see him all happy and fluffy this morning! I'll post a compilation video soon of his adventures so far on the YouTube channel.

Little gosling #11 is working hard!

An EXCITING day at RichKat Ranch! 1) 6 of the 8 goslings left with their new family a couple of hours ago AND: 2) The egg that I put in the incubator after Monet left it out from under her for a little while on Friday night has PIPPED! (see video) When we collected the 6 goslings to head east with their new family, I pulled the one "bad" egg and the one that looks to be only about 6 days into incubation (someone laid another egg in that nest after Monet's eggs were pretty far along in developing) It's also in the incubator now but it takes about 30 days to get to a hatching point. The three duck eggs in the incubator should hatch around Wednesday next week... so I'm hoping I can sneak that new goose egg under a broody momma for at least a couple days while the duck eggs are in lockdown... cross your fingers!
