I lost Ally 4 weeks ago today.

When my yellow Lab died last spring, I was flattened by an overwhelming sadness that’s with me still. And that’s normal, experts say, because losing a pet is often one of the hardest yet least acknowledged traumas we’ll ever face.

My dogs came into my life when the doctor told me I had cancer. I went and adopted two long time shelter dogs that had thought no one would ever love them.
I went to shelter and seen Rich first at back of kennel like his life was over. I adopted him. Next I seen Ronny and he came up to me and licked my hand. I adopted him.
I felt I needed some companions during this time of pain and the unknown. I didn’t know what would happen but I know I needed love to always surround me and that’s what I found in Rich and Ronny.
I needed to laugh and they make me laugh all the time. I needed to cry and they gave me a soft place to do it. I needed a friend and they gave me a paw. I beat the cancer and I owe it all to them for providing me with all the love and compassion I could ever need.
I love you guys you are my everything!!

This is Ally. I got her almost 2 years ago from a shelter in the Panhandle at the age of 12. She had been found wandering the streets. Thankfully, The Humane Society of St. Joe took her in. She was in terrible shape. A board member recognized her and knew that her parents had died a few months apart, 6 months before. Her parents had arranged for a neighbor to care for her when they died. They did so by locking her outside for 6 months.

Ally was in the shelter for 1 month before I got her so she spent 7 months, homeless. Ally was luckier than most seniors who find themselves in this position. Thank you for your continued support of these angels who have been left abandoned in their greatest time of need.

Jerome Horwitz, famous for playing CURLY in "THE THREE STOOGES", was known to all as a protector of dogs. Curly's contract with Columbia Pictures included a clause that allowed his dogs to accompany him on the studio lot. Columbia limited it to no more than two dogs at a time, this due to the puppies' unplanned on-camera appearances from time to time. You can still see those surprise dog on set invasions in the first few short films. Typically surrounded by various dogs, Curly was known to come home with a stray dog ​​and foster it until he could find it a permanent home. When the Stooges were out on the road, Curly took it upon himself to find a new home for at least one stray dog ​​in every town they visited. Curly is estimated to have saved and rescued more than 5,000 dogs in his lifetime. This makes him a man ahead of his time, with a very admirable concern for man's best friend.
