❤️ We picked up CHEWY today, an owner surrender from Bridgeport. He’s freshly groomed and flea free now…and he is SUCH a sweetheart!
His first vet visit is with our friends at Stratford Animal Hospital for exam, vaccines etc. Neuter appointment to follow.
CHEWY is in a foster-to-adopt home…so we are not accepting applications as of now.

❤️ Meet DOLLY!
DOLLY encompasses all of the best characteristics that make the pit bull breed so special...and my personal favorite. She is affectionate, forgiving, gentle, loves other dogs, people and kids! She is as sweet as they come...and all she wants in return is to be loved and taken care of. A pretty small ask.
Someone took the time to cut her ears off, breed her a disgusting number of times, teach her to "sit"....and then moved away and left her behind to fend for herself.
Humans are the most dangerous animals on the planet. They commits acts of such unimaginable cruelty and then somehow continue on with their daily lives with no feelings of empathy or regret. And to top it all off, they receive no punishment for it either.
And then here comes DOLLY...her tail never stops wagging, full of love and kisses, grateful for every single second of affection and every spec of food...still somehow believing in her heart that all humans are good.
It haunts us to think about how many litters of puppies she must have had...and out of the likely 10+ per litter...how many of those had litters themselves...and then their puppies' puppies and so on and so on. You get the idea...you see the problem, right? No one is regulating this, there is no punishment...how can we allow this to continue happening? The people who abandoned DOLLY...this angel of a dog...do you think they gave a damn about who they gave each puppy to? No!
The only silver lining is that she will never ever be treated unkindly ever again. She is safe with us in foster and we are thrilled to be able to make sure that she is adopted by the most special family out there and be treated like the treasure that she is.
DOLLY is a female pit bull, about 4-5 years old and weighs 49lbs.
She is excellent with other dogs and loves all humans, too! She seems to be totally potty trained and is fine in a crate, too (although probably doesn't need one).
Someone is going to get a really special dog right here. And although her cropped ears and lasting physical evidence of being a baby making machine will last a lifetime...they are also constant reminders of how resilient and forgiving dogs are and just how deserving she is of the most loving, best life ever from here on out.

LUNA is beautiful Tri-Color Australian Shep/Bulldog Mix, weighs about 40 lbs. and is about 2 years old.
LUNA is the life of the party! She is super engaging and eager to please. She can pick up new tricks really easily and is an expert at playing fetch, too!
LUNA is excellent in a crate is great in the car, too!
She loves wrestling around with her canine foster brother, and looooooves humans sooooo much!
She would be best with well socialized/even keel/non-reactive dogs. She wouldn't be opposed to being the only dog either!
As great as she already is...we think that with purpose, time to play and room to run...she will become even greater!

It's amazing to watch a dog transform in such positive ways. She was such a fish out of water day one...but now she has even started snuggling up with the other dogs in her foster home.

❤️ Meet ZOEY!
ZOEY is a recent owner surrender from Stratford. She had been living locked in a bedroom until her owner was evicted. From that point on, she had been bounced around from one unfit home to another when a family member stepped in on ZOEY'S behalf and reached out to us for help.
ZOEY is now safe in foster and we have had her completely vetted. She is now up to date on vaccines and newly spayed.
Imagine going from being locked in isolation in a room, to being bounced around to multiple stranger's homes to being placed into a foster home. That's a lot of change and a lot of trauma.
ZOEY has settled into her loving foster home remarkably well, and day by day becomes more and more comfortable living a normal life with people taking proper care of her.
ZOEY is a female chihuahua, about 2 years old and weighs 8 lbs. She is in foster with other small dogs and it is apparent that this is a brand new experience for her (she is avoiding, unsure, nervous). But with patience and reassurance, she has gained confidence and has become less nervous around the other dogs. She has even started cuddling with them!
ZOEY is ALL about people. Friendly with strangers, too! She is particularly smitten with the husband in the foster home where she finds her way to his lap and quickly falls asleep.
ZOEY is mostly a little couch potato but will prance around the yard in a playful manner with her humans and engage in play with people including kids.
Dog food seems to be new for ZOEY, but her fosters have found a pate style food that she has enjoys (and prefers you stay nearby while she eats lol).
ZOEY'S ideal home would be a calm one as she continues to be exposed to new things and navigates through all this extreme change. I less than two weeks she has made huge strides and you might not even suspect she’s had a rough history.
While she is fine with the dogs in her foster home, they would need to be calm and well socialized small dogs since she is still timid around other dogs.

LUNA has a big, bright, playful and affectionate spirit about her. She's a great size...not too big, not too small! She is super smart and is definitely a dog that will pick up on new tricks quickly!

❤️ We picked up this absolute sweetheart last week as an emergency owner surrender in Milford.
The family who stepped up to foster her had adopted an incredibly special pit bull from Murphy's Paw Rescue several years ago and recently lost her to Cancer.
The other pitty they adopted from us a few of years ago was depressed and really missing his best friend.
Well you guessed it…they are foster failures and this cutie pie (now called Jade) will be staying right where she is and has become a permanent part of their home.
Bonus…she’s got the pitty froggy legs!

❤️ Three of our recent owner surrenders (MELO, ZOEY and ACE) had their spay/neuter appointments yesterday! They're all a little drowsy, but all is well!
We have taken in and vetted 27 local owner surrenders in the last couple of months...some that we post publicly, some behind the scenes. We have helped provide food, vet care and valuable resources for countless pet owners throughout the year (privately).
We are a rescue who physically, financially and emotionally takes care of the dogs we vouch for...from intake, to adoption, to post-adoption.
Vet care has become a luxury...an expense that the average person can no longer swing. Keeping up with your own personal pets' vet needs is hard enough...now imagine being responsible for hundreds of dogs' vet needs. It's A LOT!
We are still hoping for donations to put towards the following owner surrenders: MELO, PRINCESS (now AVA), PRINCESS (now JADE), 3 Cats, MAX (Pekig/Chi mix Max), ACE and ZOEY.
Raising $2,000 is our goal, which is far less than the total cost of vetting. ZOEY's vetting alone was nearly $900.

💗 We have some very UNEXPECTED news to announce...Princess (now called AVA) is EXPECTING!
We just recently took in this sweetheart from an owner surrender in West Haven. She had been left with a neighbor in an apartment building and her original owners never returned. Since then, she has had two litters of puppies with the un-neutered male in the new apartment where she was living. Fast forward two years, and her owner realized she needed help and reached out to us.

A couple of days after we took her in, her surrenderer told us that it may be possible that she is pregnant. We quickly got her to the vet for an ultrasound which showed no sign of pregnancy.
That same week, she had a meet and greet with a wonderful family who fell in love with her. The plan was for her to go home with them after her spay appointment and once she was all healed up.
But there would be a shift in plans...and when her spay appointment came up, we got the news that she IS in fact pregnant...with five puppies.
The positives:
1. Her amazing fosters are more than willing to pamper her throughout this entire unexpected ordeal.
2. The adoptive family who fell in love with her still wants to adopt her and is willing to wait it out until she is fully ready (some time around end of November).
3. Adopters live in the same town as the fosters so they will be able to visit her often throughout the next 3 1/2 months.
4. We know who the dad is, and he is smaller than AVA which gives us some relief about delivery day.
So...a lot going on here...but everything is going to be just fine. She is a very lucky girl with plenty of people who love her and who will be sure to take the very best care of her and her puppies.
Due Date is mid September! (not accepting apps for puppies until late October)

❤️ After coming to terms with the possibility that ROSE may become a permanent foster in our home…this video is a reminder that it’s always worth the wait for the perfect family to come around.
Trying to explain her temperament…her quirks and the ways to work around them…but simultaneously trying to explain how truly special and “once in a lifetime” she is….well it was no easy task.

This wonderful couple adopted Shadow (another Murphy’s Paw Rescue) two years ago. The other dog they had at the time just recently passed and Shadow was really struggling.
ROXIE is of course not meant to be a replacement, she is so super special all on her own. She is lifting everyone’s spirits again…especially Shadow’s…and Shadow and ROXIE are seriously a perfect match!

To anyone who has fostered or adopted a dog from Murphy's Paw Rescue, they have probably been seen by Dr. Santelli or another wonderful veterinarian at Clinton Vet!
There are soooooo many stories we could share about the amazing staff members who go above and beyond for our dogs in need, always managing to squeeze us into their very busy calendar.
Dr. Santelli in particular has coached us through countless emergency situations and has talked us (foster parents and adopters) through endless medical obstacles...never cutting us short and always offering up her unconditional support.
I don't know any other vet who has offered up their personal cell phone number to a rescue group...because that's just asking for trouble right there! She has gotten countless texts from us like, "What do you think this is?" always accompanied by some sort of graphic photo! We are embarrassed to admit we have even had to contact her during her very rare vacations (sorry Dr. Santelli!).
Dr. Santelli (and all of the vets at Clinton Vet) do all of this because they are those very rare veterinarians whose hearts are truly still in it for the dogs. They honestly care...they feel. And like us, they just cannot rest until the dogs are taken care of.
Our JULY page featured ELVIS (adopted in 2020) from Murphy's Paw Rescue dogs! He is also a customer at Clinton Veterinary Hospital!
Elvis loves sniffing, long walks and playing with his three human brothers and one canine sister. He’s a total mama’s boy and is just the sweetest soul.

TEDDY is a terrier mix (Yorkie/Poodle maybe?), weighs 8 lbs. and is about 5 years old. Look at that adorable underbite!!!
Sadly, TEDDY lost his home as his owner is going through some serious health issues. But we know his former owner is at peace knowing that we will find TEDDY a wonderful new family to love and care for him.
TEDDY is truly making himself comfortable in his foster and connected with the other dogs in the home immediately! He initiates play and it's absolutely adorable!
TEDDY has an outgoing personality and welcomes visitors into his foster home. He is crate trained and has proven to have great house manners, too!
TEDDY is great with other dogs, but we also think he wouldn't mind having center stage! He is a little velcro dog and follows his foster mom all around the house and soaks up every bit of love and attention.

GRIFF is small mixed breed dog (maybe Doxie/Chi?), weighs 9 lbs. and is about 1-2 years old.
OMG...this little guy is SO much fun and is absolutely hysterical with his facial expressions!
GRIFF head tilts and even smiles when he's really excited/happy! We captured a little smile on camera...but we have to capture a better pic of his full smile with teeth and all!
GRIFF is a loyal little guy who will make a great little side kick to someone very lucky. He will interact independently with a ball (sort of like a cat with a ball of yarn) or play fetch! When he play bows, he gets a little case of the zoomies and it's game on! He is SO fast and he's like a little blur running around the yard!
GRIFF is excellent in the crate and is great with other dogs, too!
GRIFF loves to be held and is a super affectionate and grateful boy.
There are definite signs of mistreatment (slight hesitation at first with new people...we know his history and it's gut wrenching)...but no one can dull this little guy's happy little spirit which is coming out more and more each day as he acclimates to a loving foster environment.

GILLIGAN is a teeny little terrier, weighs only 6.2 lbs. and is about 8 months old or so.
GILLIGAN is a professional cuddler (who would love to snuggle up with you in your bed) and loves to be held like a baby.
His foster mom reports that he enjoys playing with the other little dog in the house and loves to snuggle up and nap right by your face. He’s quite content being carted around in a kangaroo pouch, too!
He has an awesome mohawk or distinguished comb-over depending on how you style it! 🤣
GILLIGAN is super playful with other playful dog and can be a little firecracker when he's comfortable!

🐈⬛ No we are not a cat rescue, but we couldn't leave this little family behind when we were working with a dog owner surrender in Bridgeport!
These three cuties (Mom, Dad & Kitten (male)) have been safe in foster with our over-the-top selfless fosters David & Marilyn...I mean who else welcomes 3 cats into their home in the middle of the night just because they believe it's the right thing to do?
Since settling into foster, we have had all three fully vetted (spayed/neutered/vaccinated/etc.)
Vetting costs were $250 per cat, totaling $750 in unexpected spur of the moment vet bills. As always, the outcome is 100% worth it...no more kittens for this little family!

Sadly, TEDDY lost his home as his owner is going through some serious health issues. OMG...this little guy is SO much fun and is absolutely hysterical with his facial expressions! GRIFF head tilts and even smiles when he's really excited/happy! We captured a little smile on camera...but we have to capture a better pic of his full smile with teeth and all! GRIFF is a loyal little guy who will make a great little side kick to someone very lucky. He will interact independently with a ball (sort of like a cat with a ball of yarn) or play fetch! When he play bows, he gets a little case of the zoomies and it's game on! He is SO fast and he's like a little blur running around the yard! GRIFF is excellent in the crate and is great with other dogs, too! GRIFF loves to be held and is a super affectionate and grateful boy. 🐾 It's been about a month since ACE has been adopted, and just look at him! ACE was a recent owner surrender from Bridgeport. He was the product of either a neglectful owner whose unfixed dogs had a litter...or the product of an intentional backyard breeder. We will never know the true story, and we will never know where his siblings or his parents are. We are so grateful that he was not bounced around to yet another spur of the moment living situation (completely unvetted). ACE is a very lucky boy to have found Murphy's Paw Rescue, a foster who rushed over to get him and ultimately his amazing forever family. Good Boy ACE!

💕 It's been about a week since MAX was adopted...and it's safe to say things are going GREAT! A family in Thomaston, CT had contacted us about this sweet senior in need of immediate placement when his beloved owner was forced into assisted living due to debilitating dementia. We are forever grateful to our incredible network of dog lovers who helped spread the word about MAX. He found the absolute perfect home and even a new best friend...the incredibly sweet and welcoming senior boy RUFUS. Happy life you two!
