Look at how happy our beautiful Athena is! She finally, after all these months, found her perfect match! She now has 2 parents that are absolutely in love with her. But best of all she has a new doggie brother to run and play with! We are sooo excited for Athena and wish her all the best. She definitely deserves it.

Found dog. Dog found running down 23 in Augres. Arenac shelter was closed so dog was brought to us. If yours or you know who it belongs to please contact the Humane Society. Also if you have friends or family that live in the Augres area please share with them in case they have any information.

This is beautiful Lexi! Lexi is a 5 1/2 month old pure bred bloodhound. Unfortunately Lexi's owner is moving and can’t take her with him. She's microchipped and updated on her shots. She will come with her halo collar and her large crate. Lexi is still with her current owner so if interested please contact the Humane Society and we can get you in contact with the owner.

He is also very playful and affectionate like all male orange cats.

Meet Jonni who is about 4 months old. She is spayed and upto date on her shots. She is here with her sister Frankie.
They arrived at the shelter when they were about 12 days old. They were raised by a great foster mother who had to bottle feed them. Bottle fed kittens are very affectionate like these two are.

This little guy was never claimed and is now ready to find his forever home. He is named Paco and he is still very young. Paco is a Chihuahua and not yet neutered so he will be a foster to adopt. He is very loving and just wants to be held at all times. However, like most young dogs Paco needs someone who is going to work with him and train him. He is not housebroken and he also likes to let everyone know that he is there...all the time. But with time, training and patience Paco will make someone a great little dog. If interested in Paco please stop on in and meet him! We are open Tuesday-Saturday 12-4pm. Also if you have any other dogs please bring them for a meet and greet.

Look no further if you’d like to adopt a happy and friendly pup! She’s in need of some training and is ready to work with a breed savvy teacher or someone willing to spend the time with her. She’s flexible! She does well with other dogs, and would be fine with a doggie companion in the home. She loves people and would be very excited to meet you!

It’s that time of year and this pretty, friendly girl is ready to learn the basics! She’s a Husky mix with emphasis on Husky. She’s four years old, a bundle of energy and in need of training, but she has that cute Husky howl😍 She does well with other dogs, and would do well in a home with a companion.
We’ve named her Thelma. You know, as in the duo Thelma and Louise? Yeah, the name suits her since she’s brassy, strong, clever and wise.
She’s available for adoption and ready to be the perfect student! We suggest someone familiar with this breed be her teacher. C’mon in and meet her!

Buddy got to spend the weekend out of the shelter and in a home! He's back now but we learned some new things about him. For instance, he can be just fine in a home with other dogs, even male ones. He would do best with a calmer doggie sibling or an older one. He is a big time snuggler and is really good riding in the car! We were told that he doesn't really climb on the furniture. Also, he saw a cat through the sliding glass door and didn't have any kind of negative reaction. Doesn't he just sound like the perfect companion! Oh and did I mention that he likes to play fetch! We deeply appreciate the lovely woman that gave Buddy a couple days of a normal life outside of the shelter. We never would have known some of the stuff we know now about him without her. If Buddy sounds like he would be a good match please stop on in and meet him. He loves meeting new people, even if he's a little shy at first. If you have another dog please bring them for a meet and greet.

If you like big, tall dogs boy do we have the dog for you! This guy is named Moose and he is approximately 2 years old. He is a German Shepherd mix. He does get a little excited when he first gets out of his kennel but settles down fairly quickly. He seems to be fine with the other dogs once he settles down but as always please bring any potential doggie siblings for a meet and greet. If interested in big ole Moose please stop on out and meet him!

🐾You’re free to be different🐾

That’s what we tell all our dogs and cats here. They are free here to be sad without judgement, to be brokenhearted and weary because they’re homeless. Yes, they are different. All have a story. Yet, they know how to love, know how to be carefree in our midst, know how to hope, know there is a forever home out there…somewhere.
🐾Can you be different and adopt a dog or cat from our shelter? Can you be different and adopt and not shop? Can you be different and open up your heart and home to one of our wonderful residents?
🐾Also, we have had people comment on prior posts offering to sponsor the adoption fee for a dog since they can’t adopt. Would you please call us and follow up for more information on how to do that? We and the animals would be so grateful if you did!

🐾IT’S NATIONAL DOG DAY🐾
In honor of this, we are reminding YOU of our extra special, beautiful bundles of love and goodness dogs that need YOU.
EVERY rescue dog has a story. What really happened to them before they landed in our shelter? We only know what we’ve been told. It’s not always who they are. They all are perfect for someone, somewhere.
What we do know is how they are while with us, always loving and trying hard to be the best version of themselves. When given a new home, with wonderful you, it takes weeks for them to decompress and show their inner goodness. Imagine how confused they must be until they feel safe with you?
They all NEED a forever home. We give them what we can, but they NEED more, a home with YOU!
NEED a reminder of their awesomeness? YOU got it!

🐾QUEENIE-at 2-3 years old she knows the ins and outs of being the bestest girl. She walks great on a leash, listens well, and has been here too long. We don’t really know what has happened in her past. All we know is she’s been the bestest girl since she came to us in April. She’s very easy to love.
🐾BELLA-this 10ish sweet senior girl was the best mama to her puppies this summer. She’s ready for a retirement home where she can rest her weary head. She still has s***k! Her short little legs make her the cutest old lady when she runs!
🐾GIA-oh my this beautiful 2-3 year baby loves her people! She’s the bestest at laying on her back and kicking up those little legs in happiness. She loves car rides, grabbing a toy to play with and being a lap dog. She’s been with us since May! Too long for any dog, especially one who wants to spend all her time with you.
🐾BUDDY-at almost 2 years old he’s the handsome king of the shelter now. All his male buddies found homes. He’s surrounded by the ladies, which he doesn’t mind. He’s happiest when playing fetch! In fact, he’s just the happiest boy. Did we mention his cute little butt wiggles when he wags his tail? He’ll lay quietly in his kennel, listens well, and has the bestest smile. What’s not to love? He’s our longest resident having been here since March! Won’t you be his new buddy and forever home?
🐾ATHENA-at 2-3 years old, she’s the goddess of our shelter, and the second longest resident here. March 26 to be exact! She’s regal, beautiful, smart, and in desperate need of a home who understands her breed and what she needs. She’s loving and loyal. She’ll crawl on your lap and gives the best slobbery kisses.

See those paw prints? Yeah, those cute ones into the house. Those are Gia’s. She WANTS a home. She NEEDS a home. She WANTS a family. She NEEDS a family. She’s been with us since May. Way too long for a sweet girl like her!
She has separation anxiety. Why? She loves her people and wants to be with them. She doesn’t like being crated because loves to be next to you.
She LOVES car rides and will be your travel companion. She LOVES laying in the grass on her back, wiggling like a happy little hippo. She LOVES grabbing a stuffie on her way out of her kennel. She LOVES giving affection.
She’ll bark since she’s excited to see you and wants your attention.
Did we get YOUR attention? If you have a home where Gia can be with her people all the time she’ll be perfect for you! If you have a home that doesn’t mind a little hippo for a lap dog she’ll be perfect for you! If you have a home that’ll shower her with all the love she deserves, she’ll be perfect for you! We’ve all had things we wished had never happened, right? Imagine being Queenie. She had a family and then she didn’t. She had a home and then she didn’t. She’s tried hard to be the bestest girl so she could have that again. Yet, she’s still in our shelter…since April 9th!
She listens. She walks great on a leash. She loves to give kisses and crawl on your lap. Despite her hardship, she still gives all she has. She’s forgiven being forgotten. Won’t you please give this beautiful girl a new future and allow her to forget her past?

Update *All three have been adopted*
Is anyone out there looking for an older gentleman in their lives? Well you're in luck! We have 3 little seniors that would love to find their forever homes. The pure white one is named Max, he is 14 years old and a Maltese. The other 2 are 13 year old brothers. The black and white one is named PeeWee and the brownish and white one is named Rusty. They are Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mixes. They are all neutered, house trained, crate trained, and up to date on shots. Sweet little old men that are just looking for a nice home to be spoiled in. If interested please stop on in and meet these guys.

This happy little hippo just wants to be with you! She’s a love bug and wants nothing more than a home with people who are home all the time. Is that you?

Her puppies are long gone, now it’s Mama Bella’s turn! You heard her, “Let’s Go!” She’s spayed and a senior. Her adoption fee is only $50!

Nose to the ground for new smells, laying on the ground for a butt scratch, crawling on a lap for love, wagging her tail at your feet. This, was Athena on a beautiful summer day. With some training and time, she’ll do that for you too. #adoptdontshop
