I can't believe youth season and liberty hunts are here already. Unseasonably warm conditions are probably going to make it tough but theres not much better than sitting out there trying.

This youth and Liberty hunt we are running a special of 10% off cash ($630) and any other form of payment ($675) Normal deer shoulder pricing is $700 and $750 respectively.

This is unfortunately the last season this hunt is allowed bucks so be sure to take advantage of the special.

Good luck to all who are out hunting.

Have a broken tine that you need repaired?

Believe it or not this big 10 pointer has a full tine and another partial recreated.

If you have a mount that just isn't quite up to s***f anymore and it needs some repairs or a remount, give me a call, send me photos, and we can assess what it'll take to bring it back to that gold standard.

This goofy tight racked buck was taken in 1974 in Michigan. It was mounted as a simple antler mount and is a client's grandfather's. He taught my client hunting and was a large part of her life. She wanted to "upgrade" the antler mount to a full shoulder and surprise her father with it. After supplying a cape, she gave me creative liberty and this is the result. A bold, majestic, classic 70s style mount. Upright straight with the wooden plaque (custom cut in house), just like they did with all mounts back in the day. The best part is I was able to include the original nameplate from 1974.

Ahh, the last euro finished up and went home. So nice to be done with one of the major parts of each season. This one just happened to be a deadhead from a non huntable area. What a beaut, Clark!

New work station! Its been a long time coming. When I moved in to this new shop I also moved a storage unit into it that didn't have much to do with taxidermy. Slowly moving things around and getting set up how I want. Its been nearly 6 months in the new place and I'm making sure its all in order for the fall seasons. Now birds and fish will be on the fast track with a clean work space and plenty of wall space for drying. Maybe one day it will be clean enough for a virtual tour.

Many of you who know me, know I'm the type of person who puts every ounce of effort into what I do and treat each client like a friend, doing my very best for each piece that comes through my doors.

Well, I could now use those friends' help. My fiancé and I are going to help in any way that we can, but it just won't be near enough. Her twin brother recently was diagnosed with cancer and with surgery, chemo and radiation, he is currently away from work and more than likely will lose his job during his recovery. He has no benefits that help during this (short or long-term disability) and as the bills are already piling, its putting things behind especially at the homefront. The whole story is listed in the gofundme link thay my fiancé set up for him. Please read it and understand what we are going through.

As I said, we are putting forth any and all efforts that we can to help and this is me trying to extend those efforts where I can. Even if its just well wishes, or prayers, or whatever you can offer to help us through these times, we surely do appreciate it.

Thank you all for following.

Gunner recently got to take home his youth season buck. Don't get a lot of chances to do clean early season deer like this one, but I do look forward to many more like it. First bucks are common here and I'll mount them all, big or small. Its the memory that matters most.

Happy for you Gunner and I hope you enjoy your trophy for many years to come.

Saturday night between 9:30pm and 11:15am Sunday, someone stole from my business, Heritage Taxidermy (at Allen and Pennsylvania in Taylor, Michigan). A client's Longhorn head was taken. The head wasn't processed yet into a nice clean skull like you'd see at hanging up in a steakhouse.

This piece is a client's and is priceless. The client was extremely emotional dropping it off. This longhorn wasn't only an animal to them, it was part of their family and was extremely sentimental to them. They are heartbroken to know someone has a part of their beloved pet.

Our only goal is to have this returned to my business. It can be dropped off discreetly where it was taken from with no questions asked. Otherwise, I'm offering a cash reward for information leading to the return of this Longhorn head in salvageable condition.

You can pm me on messenger or call my business with information. Thank you.

I wish I had the full "before" picture of this one.

This skull underwent a full transformation from an excessively boiled euro that was brittle and missing pieces.

Finishing degreasing is always the first step after someone has boiled a skull. Boiling buries grease deep inside the bone and with time it will move around and show itself, yellowing a skull.

After a good degreasing, I attacked the other problem areas, rebuilding and replacing. This particular skull you can see the rebuild areas in the 3 pictures. The replacing since they were missing, was new nose pieces, 5 new teeth, new nasal turbinates, and new sinuses.

Since the skull was so brittle even all this wouldn't hold up without some reinforcement. So it got triple primed by my hydrodipper, and then I finished it by airbrushing it back to a natural bone color.

Finally the finishing touches of recoloring the antlers and adding to a custom-cut projected plaque made this one heck of a nice piece that can be proudly displayed for years. And, you'd never know I did all that if I didn't tell you.

If you want a skull done so it will last, always skip the boiling, bring it my way, and I'll set you up with a lasting mount that you can be proud of. The last thing you want to do is pay twice for going to the wrong taxiderist.

I wish the whole world would pick up ingenuity like this. We dispose of coconut husks and burn bamboo forests like they are nothing yet bamboo is extremely sustainable and an excellent source for making many materials.

Not the biggest fan of posting progress pics because they can be used out of context but this boy is just too nice to not share.

For the time being, I will not be accepting skulls for processing. The new shop location requires that I change my methods and until I figure out if I can be successful in beetle cleaning bones, I won't be taking new clients for bone cleaning. The only exception is if they are already free and clear of all tissue, then I will degrease and whiten at a reduced rate. I hope to again offer when 2024 hunting seasons commence.

All other taxidermy services will remain as was going into 2024.

Yay! Google finally updated my address! That was such a fight with them since September it is a relief to see they have finally accepted the address of the new shop.

Hours are still variable and drop offs and pick ups are by appointment for the time being. Soon I will have 2 days a week that are set and the rest of the week by appointment.

Cranking out projects and hoping to grow with the new shop also teaming as a commercial front. See you all at the new shop!

Well.....since I have some jokesters on my last post (on my personal page), and I can see how that can be misconstrued, heres the Big Buck Down!

For the first time in I think ever, I got my target buck. Unfortunately he broke off 5 of his 10 tines. Was one of the more memorable and adrenaline inducing hunts I've had.

Thanks to my dad, Dale Salzmann for coming and helping be drag it out of the ravine it ended up in. I couldn't have done it without you.

Made a little trip to WI to hunt with family and returned my brother's refurbished Colorado mule deer to him. Years ago we used to boil skulls before we knew any better, so there was some yellowing and visible damage. I did my very best to correct that damage and mounted them to some of my custom cut plaques. He looks pretty happy with how they turned out. I'm happy he's happy and gets to continue to enjoy their beauty for years to come.
