Bringing the Community Together

KMA Urban Farms is a 503C Non-Profit Organization founded in February 2018 by Urban Farmer, Matt Lawrence. He wanted to find a way to help our community learn to cultivate and produce not only their own healthy and chemical free food, but also enough to give back to others who cannot afford it or who do not have the space and resources to do it themselves.

With no start-up funding or capital other than his own savings he had to get creative and figure out a way to fund his big goals. After some brainstorming, Matt and his partners came up with the idea for the first Thornton Farmers Market.

In partnership with the City of Thornton and the City Recreation Center at Margaret Carpenter Park and Open Space, the Thornton Farmers Market was born. In addition to creating a space for KMA Urban Farms to get in front of the community, the Farmers Market gives us the opportunity to support one another in many more ways.

Since the market was started with limited funding and resources from KMA Urban Farms, for the first season, we decided to invite Miller Farms to be our primary produce supplier. They currently offer a $10 fill-up produce bag and a large variety of produce. In addition they accept Food Stamps for purchases which aids the lower income families in our community as well.

KMA Urban Farms currently brings micro-greens, salad mix and additional produce to the market each week from their own garden available by donation. They also supply rhubarb, zucchini and other produce to Alternative Bakery & Gifts who also sells their fresh gluten-free bakery products at the market.

Although we are still recruiting many types of food vendors, at our market you will already find a wide variety of other types of locally produced foods including eggs, honey, salsa, a huge selection of home-made bakery, candy confections, dog treats and more! KMA Urban farms is still actively looking for additional produce vendors and always accepts fresh food donations from flourishing neighboring yards. Any extra produce remaining at the end of each market will be given to low income families.

In addition to supporting the community with food resources we wanted to encourage vendor participation from local businesses, artisans, crafters, makers and entertainers as well! After all, this business was founded with the primary mission to bring the community together and encourage communal support for one another.

Please help us spread the word about our non-profit and support us however you can. There are many ways you can get involved. You can volunteer your time or yard space, you can donate money or extra produce from your own yard, you can shop or participate as a vendor at our farmers market or you can simply share and spread the word about KMA Urban Farms and/or the Thornton CO Farmers Market. Please help us create a buzz and turn this idea into a flourishing and thriving business serving the community.
