Looking at that basket full of candy? 🍫🍬

Well...then it is the perfect time to let you know that November is National Pet Diabetes Month! Both cats and dogs can get diabetes.

Symptoms like excessive thirst, increased urination, or sudden weight loss may indicate a need for a check-up. Early detection can make a big difference in managing diabetes for your furry friends. 💙

🎃🐾 Halloween is just around the corner! As we gear up for the spooky season, let’s keep our furry friends safe. Here are some tips to ensure your pets enjoy the festivities:

Keep candy out of reach: Chocolate and certain candies can be harmful to pets! 🍫
Create a cozy space: With all the doorbell ringing, set up a quiet area for your pets to relax.

Costume check: If you’re dressing up your pet, make sure their costume fits well and doesn’t restrict movement or vision. 👻

ID and microchip: Ensure your pets are wearing their ID tags and are microchipped in case they get spooked and run off.

Let’s make this Halloween a fun and safe one for all! 🎉👻 #

🐾 Happy Veterinary Technician Week! 🎉🩺

Veterinary technicians are critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices, and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare. National Veterinary Technician Week provides an opportunity to recognize veterinary technicians’ contributions. First celebrated in 1993, it takes place in the third week of October each year! We are grateful for our amazing team💜

While ofrendas are traditionally set up for a few days closer to the holiday, we want to give our extended family here at AHTO the chance to partake in this celebration. 🧡🕯️
We welcome you to place a photo of your fur baby who has crossed the rainbow bridge on our ofrenda to celebrate their life. Our Ofrenda will be on display until November 4. If you would like your photo returned, please have your name and phone number on the back so we can call you when it is time to take down the ofrenda. If you do not put this information on your photo, we will save it to place on our ofrenda next year. You can also email us a photo for us to print out to [email protected]. 💜🐶🐾🐱🐈‍⬛

🐾 It’s National Adopt a Dog Month 🐾

🐕 Repost • Ventura County Animal Services Due to a high influx of arriving dogs, VCAS will be offering fee-waived dog adoptions through Sunday, October 6 in an effort to reduce crowding. Our hope is that this encourages adoptions, and in turn creates open kennels for new arrivals and critical cases.

VCAS is also encouraging the community to reunite lost dogs with their owners outside of the shelter when possible. 🐾

Preview available animals at https://www.vcas.us/dogs/.
Full adoption process explained at https://www.vcas.us/adoptionprocess/.

*Promotions do NOT guarantee the adoption of a shelter pet. All interested parties must participate in the full adoption process to ensure best matches are made! Small licensing fee may apply for Ventura County residents. Does not apply to animals housed at our partnered pet store locations.

Please note: Our adoption sign-up portal below will become inactive on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, in preparation for our Clear the Shelters pet adoption event. Adoptions will be on a first-come, first-served basis at both the Camarillo and Simi Valley Animal Shelters. Key event details: Fee-waiv...

🦆…🦆…GOOSE😻 This baby kitty was adopted from the shelter and had the cutest personality🐾 As part of a health check for all kittens, we performed a FeLV/FIV test. This test runs on only a few drops of blood 🩸and checks for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (aka FIV/Feline AIDS). He was negative for both which is excellent news 😺

With extreme heat warnings in the forecast for the next few days, it's important to take precautions to keep our furry friends safe and cool! There is an Excessive Heat Warning in effect until Monday 9/9, which means companion animals should not be left alone outside for extended periods of time.

- 💧: Make sure there is always plenty of cool water available for your pets. Keep multiple water bowls around the house and refresh them often.
- 🍀: Avoid walking your dog on hot surfaces. These surfaces can get very hot and can burn your pet's paws. Instead, opt for walking on grass or dirt paths.
- 🏖: If you are spending time outside with your pet, make sure they have access to shade. This will help them stay cool and avoid overheating.
- 🚗: NEVER leave your pet in the car. Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can quickly rise to dangerous levels and can lead to heatstroke.
- ⚠️: Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, weakness, lethargy, dark red gums, drooling, and rapid heartbeat. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, seek veterinary care immediately.

By taking these precautions, you can help prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. Stay safe and cool during these hot summer days! 🧊
