Over the past several weeks, Los Angeles Veterinary Public Health Program (VPH) has received multiple reports of dogs experiencing an acute onset respiratory disease of unknown etiology. Similar outbreaks have recently been described in Oregon and Colorado in recent weeks.

There are reports of dogs becoming ill with respiratory disease of an unknown cause, primarily after visits to group settings for dogs. Coughing and other clinical signs in some cases last for several weeks. In other cases, dogs become ill rapidly, needing hospitalization.

So far during these outbreaks, there are no reports of similar illness in other animal species or in humans.

Given the lack of information about the cause of Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (aCIRD), dog owners are advised to:

• Isolate sick dogs at home for 28 days part the first onset of illness, minimum, and isolate them when hospitalized

• Quarantine exposed dogs at home for 14 days to monitor them for clinical signs

• Utilize a disinfectant that is effective against non-enveloped viruses and other harder-to-kill pathogens, such as freshly formulated bleach or accelerated hydrogen peroxide products. Assure surfaces are clean before use. Always read disinfectant labels and follow instructions.

• Keep your dog home, away from day care, boarding kennels, grooming facilities, and dogs parks, if your dog is ill for any reason.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call. We have protocols in place as well as screening questions to help maximize the safety of your dog's visit.

Forever home needed! Meet Bronco; he is a one-year-old Great Pyrenees x Cane Corso. He weighs 112 # but will probably top off around 120-130. He is good with dogs of all sizes but is not trustworthy with cats. He needs training to pull less on leash and to learn not to jump and play bite when overly excited . He is friendly and playful, quite the gentle giant. He is not yet neutered, so when that happens he may be less excitable. If interested please contact Rescue Bae

Important Update from Country Hills Animal Clinic
To all our valued clients, a very important update.

WE'RE MOVING!

A new hospital is on the way. We had hopes of only making one move when our new permanent location was finished. Unfortunately, after 43 years our current property management is no longer allowing us to maintain our tenancy. We will be moving to a temporary location while our new permanent home is being completed. We will be offering the same services and most important, the same quality of care. Our temporary location will be 18512 Hawthorne Blvd Torrance, CA. 90504.

Please be patient while we adjust to the move. This change will take place starting the end of June through the first of July. We will be here to help guide your through any questions or concerns you may have. In the beginning, there may be some differences in scheduling, and we will keep you informed as things progress.

We understand this may be a greater distance for some of you, but we hope we can maintain the bonds we've built in this community over the past four decades.

When completed our new permanent hospital will be located at 3768 W. 242nd Street Torrance, CA. 90505. Thank you for your support as new and exciting things await. Remember this move is only temporary, and we will keep you updated as we go along.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jennifer Cassidy

PLEASE HELP
On October 30, 2022, around 4pm, Maggie got spooked, slipped out of her collar, ran into the street and got nipped by a car and took off running toward Narbonne Avenue. Maggie was last seen running North on Narbonne Avenue, crossing Lomita Boulevard. She was also seen around Eshelman and 250th Street in Lomita. A witness said she did not look injured. Maggie is a 8 month old, Catahoula Leopard Beagle mix, spayed and chipped. Her coloring is tri-color, with white on her chest, white paws and white tip at the end of her tail. Again she was not wearing her collar, but is chipped.

Meet TJ! 😍

Dr. Yuhas & Jackie met this spunky pup at Country Hills Animal Clinic. He needed a recheck echocardiogram to monitor his Degenerative Valvular Disease.

The degeneration process causes the valves to become abnormally thick and develop a “lumpy” appearance. This change impedes their ability to form a tight seal between the atrium (top chamber) and ventricle (bottom chamber) when the heart is squeezing or pumping. Overtime, this requires the heart to work harder at maintain cardiac function.

Thankfully, TJ's condition is very stable and you can see he was very excited for the great news!

In loving memory of Kiki, her owners wished to share this beautiful message.

Kiki was known for having the silkiest, softest fur you could imagine. So now our "angel with fur" is now a real angel. She is resting in peace after a brief battle with cancer.

Her loyalty knew no bounds -- faithfully keeping me company no matter where I was. She made it PURRfectly clear that I was her favorite human.

Always the smarter, more mature, more street-wise cat, she is survived by brother Tubby.

Kiki, hope you finally catch that bright light you were always chasing, stuff yourself to the gills with Japanese cat foot tubes, tear to pieces your favorite cat toy, and jump on all the Zoom calls you want in heaven.

Grateful for you and love you FURRever!
