I always say: One kitten is half a kitten. Two kittens are a whole!

Often, first-time adopters feel overwhelmed by the idea of bringing home a pair, and believe it will be easier to adopt a solo kitten…only to realize later that they wish they’d adopted a duo! As someone who reads a lot of adoption applications, trust me: a lot of solo-kitten adopters end up wanting a second kitten after all.

Paired adoptions make me happy, but I do lots of solo kitten adoptions too, as long as the adopter has another young cat in the home to be the kitten’s friend. Our kittens adjust beautifully to homes with young, playful cats! Interestingly enough, we didn’t have any paired adoption applicants for my current crew of 4…but we had several applications from people who had recently adopted a solo kitten and regretted not adopting a second!

One adopter told me that she’d adopted a kitten just days earlier, then went to the vet and was told “you need to get a second kitten,” so she applied with Orphan Kitten Club for a little friend. (LOVE that advice—thank you, vet!)

I share this to say that if you’re a first-time adopter considering a solo kitten, consider adopting a pair. I promise I’m not just trying to upsell you on kittens! Two kittens will keep each other entertained, learn new skills from one another, take out their energy on one another, and enrich each others’ lives. And when you adopt a pair of young friends or littermates, they’ll be bonded immediately!

If you’ve recently adopted a solo kitten and have no other cats at home, it’s not too late to get them a little buddy to bond with for life. Every time an adopter applies to pair one of our kittens with their new kitten, I tell them: you are making a very smart decision!

This evening, a compassionate individual discovered a stray cat seeking shelter inside a vehicle on Ash Street in Wagoner. The Wagoner Police Department intervened, and the cat was taken to Tulsa Animal Urgent Care by our team. Sadly, the cat was suffering from calicivirus, which had caused painful ulcers in his mouth and throat, and had maggots infesting his hind end. Despite our best efforts, he was humanely helped across the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈

This has been our second emergency this weekend, and the costs are significant for our small rescue. We are seeking donations to help cover the end-of-life expenses for both Woody and Ash. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Update on Our Recent Cruelty Case 🚨

Our team has been working tirelessly over the past two days to care for the 12 animals we rescued from Rocky Ford State Park in Tahlequah. They arrived covered in f***s, riddled with parasites, dehydrated, and malnourished. We’ve learned they were locked in their cramped kennels on the creek bank for over 24 hours. On Wednesday evening, the mother and her babies were seen at Tulsa Animal Urgent Care, where they were prescribed antibiotics, parasite treatments, eye ointments, and antifungals. We’ve now had a dozen appointments with South Tulsa Vet Hospital!

One sweet kitty has large open wounds on both sides of her face and neck. She’s been prescribed antibiotics and steroids. Two teenage kittens are incredibly malnourished; at nearly 6 months old, they weigh only 3 lbs. They’ve been prescribed antibiotics, probiotics, and antifungals. Two adult females are covered in ringworm and will be receiving extensive antifungal treatments. One very sassy orange boy needs to be neutered as soon as possible!

Last, but certainly not least, is Mama and her babies. These kittens, aged 5-6 weeks based on their teeth development, weigh only 8-10 ounces when they should be nearly 24 ounces. Their neglect appears to be long-term, with clear signs of malnutrition. Tragically, 4 of these precious babies have already crossed the rainbow bridge. We are hopeful that our remaining kitten will receive a miracle and have a chance at life. Mama is severely underweight, just skin and bones, but she is doing her best to care for her babies.

All the cats have now been dewormed, given subQ fluids, flea prevention, vaccinations, and FIV/FeLV tested (negative). We have 4 surgery appointments next Friday to spay the females, numerous prescriptions to fill, and more eye ointments to order. Can you help us accomplish this lifesaving rescue? ❤️

🚨GRAPHIC PIC WARNING🚨
The five baby kittens found today in the crates of dumped cats came covered in f***s, underweight and dehydrated. Volunteers spent hours this evening cleaning them up, deworming them, getting them flea free and trying to provide nutrition. Despite our best efforts, the kittens are declining rapidly.

Mom and her five babies are currently at Tulsa Animal Urgent Care. We will keep you updated as we know more. We thank you for your continued support- these babies lives depend on it, literally. 💔

🚨We are in need of urgent help 🚨
A Good Samaritan called our organization today in incredible distress. As her family was visiting rural Rocky Ford state park, they discovered three crates filled FULL of cats deep in the woods. The cats were terrified, dirty and lacking nutrition. Panicked at the thought of leaving these cats for dead, they reached out to our organization for assistance.

It is unknown just how long they had been in the wooded creek bed waiting and hoping for a savior to come for them. The 5 young kittens that were found are in horrific condition, just skin and bones. They will be lucky to survive. We knew we had to help, thankfully our awesome volunteer Angela jumped into action.

Tomorrow we will rack up a large vet bill in hopes of stabilizing five unthrifty babies and getting the 7 teen and adult cats on a better, healthier path. Immediate medical care, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, parasite preventions among other needs will add up quickly for such a large group. This expense was truly more than our organization can afford to take on but we couldn’t dare to turn a blind eye to these cats after humans have already failed them once. ‼️Little Ringo is hospitalized with South Tulsa Veterinary Hospital for calici virus. ‼️
He has oral lesions causing him a great deal of pain and leaving him unable to eat, so he will have a feeding tube placed and iv fluids ran to ensure he gets quality nutrition in his time of need. His bloodwork came back much better than we would expect for a cat in this condition.

As of now we have spent $537 on his lifesaving care. Ringo is only around 4lbs but has a HUGE personality, even during this horrible illness he purrs, makes biscuits and swoons every person he meets! 🐾
