Remembering ‘31’ Bart

We take a moment and remember the tragic events of this day 11 years ago 🏴

On 6 August 2011, a U.S. CH-47D Chinook military helicopter operating with the call sign Extortion 17 (pronounced "one-seven") was shot down while transporting a Quick Reaction Force attempting to reinforce a Joint Special Operations Command unit of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the Tangi Valley in Maidan Wardak province, southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan.

"You might see Extortion 17 stories referencing '30 Americans were killed,' but it will be quickly corrected for a good reason.

It's 31.

If you've ever lost your dog, you know the anguish of having to say goodbye to your best friend. Now imagine if you were involved in some of the most dangerous military operations and your best friend was next to you the entire time, willing to die to protect you.
