Tonight’s 4H meeting we went over horse parts, breed characteristics, and took the senior resident out for a nice grooming session while talking about her sway back, cushings and old age! Great group of 4H-ers! Next meeting is in December! We will have our holiday party and do some fun arts and crafts!

We love to see such a fast learner!
Start of the lesson mare was very stiff and bracing, throughout the lesson we worked on helping her understand pressure and release, by the end she was very floaty and light using her body correctly! Excited to see how this team progresses!

👋 This is a very important memo! 👋 Please make sure you always buckle your blankets and tack into your horse. When they face out they have the risk of getting caught on fences, buckets, and anything else your horse might find.

In case you’re wondering why it’s important to have a balanced diet, here is a chart that shows interactions between different minerals! 😳🤯 (and this is simplistic!!)

This is also a good reminder why it’s not recommended to elevate specific nutrients in a diet without working with an equine nutritionist.

Next 4H meeting is October 26th 5:30-7pm!
Returning members please bring projects from last meeting!

Holding the whip with good technique
Picking up the reins without pulling backwards
Regaining a stirrup without stopping the seat
Holding the lunge line without pulling the head off center
Re-organizing the lunge line without losing focus on the horse in movement
Walking beside the horse in a straight line without pulling the horses shoulder toward them
Saddling, girthing and mounting without tightening the horses back
Taking a horse through a gate with balance and calm

These are essential skills to being a good rider and horseman.
Where are these being taught? Do people still know or care about them?

Everywhere I go, I hear people talk about canter transitions, lateral work, improving a jump -

But I rarely see excellent basic skills

As a teacher, this is where my focus lies. Until you can get organized and balanced yourself, there’s no amount of progress your horse can gain that you can’t disorganize in short order -

Everyone wants to do the fancy stuff. Who wants to get really good at holding their equipment well, putting it on quietly without disturbing the horse, walking better, breathing better, and just being better to a horse in general?

This weeks list included, filling in pasture 1 little pond, putting round bales out, finishing hay, tree limbs cut down, new coat of paint on fencing, fixing miscellaneous things.
Now to finish up hay and a few other things like new arena dirt 🤩
Thanks to everyone who’s been able to help volunteer and lend a hand to get some things crossed off the to do list before winter hits and the baby comes! ❤️

A dull horse is a dangerous horse.

Responsiveness is what keeps you and your horse safe in all situations.

It doesn’t matter whether you want to trail ride, arena ride or have a performance/sport horse- your horse needs to be responsive.

End of story.

Smart deworming decisions are based on regular f***l egg-count tests that identify which horses in a herd need to be treated for particular parasites. This guidance, however, doesn’t apply to controlling bots. >>>https://bit.ly/EQBattlingBots

Newest Horse Boarding option in Watertown

For the established horseman or horsewoman, this is the newest option for homing your horse in Watertown. Established May of 2017, we started our endeavor with simply bringing our daughters’ horse home, but now 14 stalls later, we have grown into a boarding business.

Our stable changes weekend by weekend. We continue to add services to our business to enhance the boarding experience for your horse and you.

We are hardworking, almost all work has been done by our family. My husband Chet was a dairy farmer for 20 years in Evans Mills and I have been handling horses since 2008.

Another key strength is we allow a horse to be a horse. We strive as much as possible to get your horse outside where he/she needs to be in order to be happy and have exercise and roll around time. I have seen too many barns that leave the horses in all day when it’s perfectly suitable and better to have them outside.
