🌟 Update on Our Rescue Kittens! 🌟

Thanks to your generous donations, the three kittens we rescued are now safe and sound with one of our loving fosters. These little furballs are just over a pound each—skin and bones, but with hearts full of love! We've given them flea baths, and each one was more infested than the last. 🐾

In addition, we have two young adults under a year old—essentially, they’re still kittens! They too were covered in fleas and received flea baths.
These sweet girls and boys also got their first dose of wormer, flea meds, and the older ones received their initial vaccines. Next, we’ll test them for FIV and FeLV, and they’ll be spayed and neutered.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support from our community. Thank you for making a difference in their lives! ❤️

Poor sweet Hollister has been patiently waiting for almost a year to find his forever home! He was adopted as a kitten and returned to us last year after his mom lost her home.

He's a distinguished senior gentleman of 9 years of age with soft medium length hair and a face that will melt your heart. He has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), also known as wobbly cat syndrome. He was born with this condition and it was caused from his mom being exposed to a virus while pregnant. He doesn't require medication and it doesn't shorten his lifespan, he's just a bit wobbly and unbalanced when he walks and sometimes falls over. It doesn't seem to phase Hollister at all and he just gets back up and trucks along.

Hollister loves people and enjoys receiving attention and affection. He would do best in a home without small children since he's a bit unbalanced and could be stepped on by little ones. He lives with other cats and does fine as long as they respect his space and aren't a bully towards him. Not sure about dogs though.

UPDATE: Thank you for your amazing show of support and generosity! We have received enough donations to cover the cost of vetting for the first 5 cats/kittens at animal control and HHS will be getting them later this week. AMAZING!!! We will keep you posted on additional updates on the other cats in need of help as we know more.

We are still on intake freeze. We get calls daily about cats/kittens/dogs needing rescue and it kills us to have to say no, but we do not yet have enough funding to start taking animals again.

A request we received this week is for approx 40 cats/kittens from a hoarding situation at a rural animal control with no AC/Heat or space for these animals. They all face euthanasia in the near future without rescue placement. 3 of the kittens are pictured below. We desperately want to help but need your help to do so.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

$150 will cover basic vetting for a cat/kitten. If you want to sponsor a cat by donating $150, or contributing more/less, it will be used toward getting as many of these fur babies to safety as possible. This is the only way we can bring them in.

🌟Tigger and Pooh Update🌟
One year ago, these two babies were saved by Heartland. They had eye infections and were sickly kittens. They were sick for quite some time. But when they were better, they found the perfect home. They are now known as Walter and Mango. The pair is loved by their human mother, father and big brother. We couldn’t be happier for this family!

It’s time to think about PIZZA! Who doesn’t love pizza AND cats? Well here is a win win…eat yummy pizza and help the cats in our rescue. We are still trying to raise enough money to intake more cats and kittens. So, this fund raiser is very helpful. My personal experience with purchasing the online codes has been a positive one. I fed my family of 7 plus one of the kids friends (all teens and 20s) with two of the meal deals and only spent $52. This runs until the end of the month so you can purchase your pizza for the month right here and help the rescue. That is my plan!

🦥🌟 Update on Sloth 🌟🦥

This past Thursday morning, Sloth had trouble walking, so his foster mom rushed him to the vet. It turns out he had hemobart (short for Hemobartonella), also known as Feline Infectious Anemia. This disease is caused by a parasite that affects red blood cells.

When Sloth and his brother Chunk were rescued, they were covered in fleas and had to be bathed three times before they started to look white. Their skin was irritated and pink.

We're thrilled to share that Sloth is now back to his playful self, enjoying time with the other foster kittens and walking without any issues. The vet has put both Sloth and Chunk on a 30-day course of medication as a precaution.

Thank you all for your prayers, good vibes, and well wishes. Sloth gave us quite a scare, but he's on the mend and doing great! 🐾

🐾To help raise awareness of the importance of regular wellness visits for our feline friends, August 22 has been declared National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day.🐾

💉When we take our cats for check-ups, they receive several important vaccines, typically including FVRCP, rabies, and sometimes FeLV. While rabies vaccination is straightforward and legally required, the other vaccines are crucial for both indoor and outdoor cats.

The FVRCP vaccine covers:

✨Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR): A respiratory infection caused by a herpesvirus.

✨Feline Calicivirus (C): A respiratory virus that can also cause mouth ulcers and joint inflammation.

✨Feline Panleukopenia (P): Often called "Panleuk," this severe viral infection affects the gastrointestinal system and immune system.

✨Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is another key vaccine, protecting against a virus that compromises the immune system and can lead to various health issues.

🩺Even indoor cats are at risk from these diseases. FVRCP and FeLV can be transmitted through contact with contaminated objects or other animals that may enter your home. 😻 Purrfect Update😻

✨Lewis was found in a backyard with a mangled foot, this little guy was terrified but has made an incredible recovery. His finders fell in love with him and decided to adopt him once he was healed. Now he’s thriving with his new family, living alongside three other Heartland kitties—Norman, Homer, and Roy—all of whom were once fosters too. Lewis and Roy have become the best of friends! We could not be happier for Lewis!💕

Moki came to us from animal control in Poplar Bluff. Despite being pregnant and facing the threat of euthanasia, Moki's spirit remained unbroken. She gave birth to three adorable kittens—Tater, Poe, and Mickey—who are now on their journey to finding their forever homes.

We’re thrilled to share that Moki has found her forever home, where she is cherished and loved. Now, her kittens are eagerly seeking a loving family to call their own. Each one has a unique personality and is ready to bring joy and companionship into a new home.

If you’re looking for a kitty you can hold tight and bury your head in for kisses, Paulie isn’t your guy. If you want a shadow, the best couch and bed mate, gold medal winning flying bug catcher, playful buddy and ADORABLE face to look at - he is definitely the kitty for you.

Paulie’s family moved away and left him outside to make it in the world by himself. He’s been with Heartland for 10 months and deserves a permanent home of his own.

Help a foster mom out here! She has this problem. She is in love with this kitten and is desperately searching for the perfect person to give him all the love he deserves! He was in a home of his own until recently. His family were losing their home and they did not want him to become homeless with them. So, his foster mom would love to see him go straight into a home instead of going to Petsmart or the Cafe. He is so sweet and loving. He would make the perfect addition to your home. August 22nd is “Take your Cat to the Vet Day”.
There are so many reasons for your cat to go to the vet annually but one of my personal favorites is that visit could identify a problem before it becomes a problem and save money down the road (not to mention pain and suffering for my furry friend).

Annual exams give our vets a chance to check for any signs of illness, which can sometimes be subtle and easily missed in cats. They will conduct a thorough head-to-tail examination to identify any changes or abnormalities. The sooner medical issues are detected and treated, the better the outcome.

An exam once a year is a must. Book your vet appointment today if your cat is due or overdue.
