Thank you: You make a difference!
The MSSPA followers and supporters are certainly a devoted crew. We know this because you follow along so lovingly with the highs and lows of each horse in the herd; you are all so supportive of the work that happens here at the farm.
The Society could not do this work without the time, treasure, and talent of our staff, volunteers, and supporters. We have so much to be grateful for this year, and on this day set aside for giving, our thanks are given for *YOU.*
The life-saving work of the MSSPA happens because of your generosity.
Please accept our thanks on this Giving Tuesday! #horses #rescue #Maine #rehome #rehabilitate #dayinthelifeofafarm #horselove #community #gratitude #adopt #shelter #GivingTuesday
Farewell, Sebastian
The work of animal welfare is both immensely joy-filled, and deeply heart-breaking. Today is a hard day at the farm as we lost our buddy Sebastian. Here is a little bit about his story. #dayinthelifeofafarm #allinadayswork #Maine #shelter #rehabilitate #horses #rescue #rehome #community #horselove #adopt
There are milestones big and small in the world of animal rescue, and they are worth celebrating. When handsome Walter, a 5-year-old Standardbred, joined us last March, we knew he would have a very long road to recovery in front of him. Much of that recovery has meant stall rest for this guy, not much fun when you are just a kid at heart. We all 'walked with Walter' when he took his first stroll up and down the barn aisle, and today - Walter took his first tripl around the farm. This is a farm he has mostly viewed from his 'corner office' at the end of the barn, and while he has been the object of MUCH affection, Walter hasn't really seen much of the Society. Today he got a better glimpse of this place he calls home (at least for awhile); here is a little view of what Walter got to witness today. Keep up the great work, you sweet boy - you've got lots of folks cheering on your every step! #rehabilitate #rescue #gratitude #horselove #horses #dayinthelifeofafarm #allinadayswork #adopt #shelter #Maine #community #rehome
If you've followed the MSSPA for a bit, you might remember sweet "Queen Bee," (now "Sprout") who was adopted about a year ago. She is living her best life, ("Always leading the pack," according to her mom) and her adopter shared this little video she thought we'd enjoy. #horselove #Maine #gratitude #rehome #allinadayswork #dayinthelifeofafarm #rehabilitate #horses #adopt #rescue #shelter #community
'word from the herd' - Baby Girl goes home!
And Baby makes five! This morning, we said goodbye to our beautiful "Baby Girl," as she has been affectionately called, as she headed to her new adoptive home. Sweet Baby Girl was part of a seizure of seven horses back in June of 2022; when she arrived she truly WAS a baby, at just two years old. Her mother Zara was part of the seven (and is still here at the farm and available for adoption!). That case took a very long two years to resolve, so everyone here at the farm had plenty of time to fall in love with Baby and her six herdmates. When the case *finally* settled last June, MSSPA staff set about preparing these incredible horses (and one beloved mule) for their forever homes. Today, Baby was the fifth horse to leave the farm from that little herd, and take with her a piece of our collective hearts. She is a stunning (now) four-year-old Arabian - with her WHOLE life ahead of her! Congratulations, Baby! #Maine #rescue #adopt #community #horses #horselove #allinadayswork #gratitude #dayinthelifeofafarm #rehabilitate
'word from the herd' - raising a paddock
Managing the day-to-day care of the herd ranges from the obvious tasks - feeding and caring for the horses, cleaning the barn, cutting and baling hay - to the not-so-obvious (but just as essential) projects to keep the farm in good working condition - maintaining vehicles and equipment, repairing and painting fences, and keeping the grounds safe for both horses and people. On this week's 'word from the herd,' a community of support came together to make this project happen. A very generous donor provided the funds to get the project going, Shaw Brothers Construction matched that generosity by providing materials to the Society at half the cost, and one of our own volunteers tackled a job that literally raised the level of a paddock so that it would better serve the horses. #rescue #allinadayswork #rehome #rehabilitate #horselove #gratitude #dayinthelifeofafarm #community #Maine #adopt #horses
"Some Enchanted Evening" at the MSSPA, "word from the herd"
It is impossible to measure the impact that music has on our lives. On this past Saturday night, voices raised in song drifted across the paddocks, and everyone - including the horses - could not help but be moved. A special thank you to MSSPA Volunteer Malinda Haslett and the amazing music students at the Osher School of Music at the University of Southern Maine for sharing their talents. #rehome #gratitude #horselove #community #dayinthelifeofafarm #rescue #allinadayswork #horses #Maine #rehabilitate #adopt
Morning Minute: Little Jack goes home!
Saying goodbye to a tiny but mighty little guy means the work of the MSSPA - for this miniature horse - has brought him back to great health, and he is ready for a home of his own. So this morning, wee Jack hopped on the trailer like a pro - and headed off to new pastures. He's been with us for more than two years, so it was a bit like saying goodbye to an old friend. But he'll have a new pal in his new home that you might remember! #Maine #horses #rescue #community #gratitude #rehome #adopt #dayinthelifeofafarm #rehabilitate #allinadayswork #horselove

A visit to River's Edge Farm!
The MSSPA combined a post-adoption site visit with a bit of a 'family' reunion -- as we visited four former MSSPA horses at the place that they now call home. Rivers Edge Farm #community #horselove #dayinthelifeofafarm #horses #Maine #rehome #adopt #allinadayswork #rescue #gratitude #rehabilitate
As the saying goes, if you don't like the weather in Maine, just wait a few minutes. Here at the farm? That is certainly true. #horselove #adopt #focusonthefarm #gratitude #community #Maine #rehabilitate #photography #rescue #horses #rehome #dayinthelifeofafarm #allinadayswork
