(1)

I am Gardener who is for hire and will help you as a beginner or a long time gardener to help create the best possible garden whether flower, landscape, veggies or fruits.I am Green Gardener who only uses Compost, various manure and cover crops. I also grow heritage and heirloom seeds because they often have better flavor and are more disease resistance. This year we will be growing tomatoes, potat

oes, turnips, beets, corn, onions, rutabagas, parsnips, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and various lettuces. I am Gardener who thinks that all people should grow some or most of their fruits. The backyard Orchard can do this for you whether big or small yard. You can grow 95 % of your Fruit on a quarter acer like we do or some smaller amount by using dwarf versions, Espalier(pruning the tree on one plane such as against a fence) or in a barrel on your patio. I can help you pick out the fruits, pick the spots and help you plant them.We have on our lot, six peach ,three cherry, three pear, two plum, one apple, two crabapple, fig and three walnut trees. We also have raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, strawberries, blakberries and black raspberries. I have great success with local flowers and Roses and I think it is that I do not hover over them and I use lots of compost and manures. I grow for my wife Roses, Daffodils, Tulips, Irises, Pansy's, Sunflowers, Peonies, Marigolds, Zinnias, Purple Cone flower, Daisy's, Milkweed, Joe Pye weed, and any other one my wife likes. We also do all local flowers in our prairie rock garden. I am Gardener who uses heirloom seeds and saves them

for saving money and seeing if some new type will show up the next season. I can teach you how to save seeds. I am Green Gardener who uses compost and manure only to grow more food, give trees a fast start, make flowers bloom brighter colors and plants grow better roots. We compost all the leaves from our trees and any neighbors in the fall . We rototill all the leaves in the garden We use a lawn mower with a grass catcher to use the clippings for compost because it is rich in nutrients. We are trying to have as little lawn as possible but the clippings are put to good use. Also all food scrapes are composted except of animal source . I am a Gardener who grows trees for Food, Protection, Beauty and the Challenge. I have a

backyard Orchard that produces 95% of all our

Fruit. We have Many types of Evergreens to protect

the north winds in winter ,we have beautiful trees like

Redbud's and our fruit trees and I am growing Giant Sequoias for the Challenge.

Had to water again as we are in a severe drought in our area. Planted 60 tomato plants in the garden, picking the the largest plants as they grow not which ones they are. Still need to plant about 40 more around the yard and will plant more as we consume the salad (lettuce, radish and onion) crop as they are about to bolt with this drought and high temps. The Butterfly garden is doing well in this drought. The Rock/Rain garden is too doing well. We have Apricots, Peaches, Cherries, Gooseberries, Raspberries, Mulberries and Pears so far growing on the trees and bushes. The Strawberries are not doing great in this heat. The Pepper plants are doing great in this heat. The Fig tree in the ground has come alive in this heat.

June 13th

Plated some more tomato plants in the garden and raised beds. Lettuce is good for this late and hot. Raddish and Turnips being picked but too hot to grow they are bolting. This is where you choose to spend the time and water to save the crop, seeds cost and output do not make sense in this case to save them from bolting as summer gets hotter. The Califlower and Cabbage does make sense with time and water and for the Tomatoes they love this weather and will thrive as does the Peppers. Beans also love the hot. The Raspberries are about to start ripening in big amounts. The Grapes love this weater too. The Cherries are turning Red.

June 20th

We had our first significant rain in 2 months. It has saved allot of the fruit that was being stressed. Planted more tomato plants in the garden after rototilling the radish under as they bolted. Picked cherries going to make cherry berry pie. The raspberries are ripening already. Going to pick Mulberries to put in the pie. Onions are still growing despite the lack of rain .We have beans being produced and also Peppers. The radish in the raised beds also bolted. We do have the Celery growing good seems to like the heat as long as I water it. Picked some more little Yellow Cherry Tomatoes. The tomato plants in the garden a love this hot weather as long as I water them. Cauliflower and Cabbage doing good with watering.

June 27th

We got some more rain and it is hot. The tomato plants are growing fast. We have 2 so far purple Cauliflower. We have Peppers already almost full size. We made a Cherry, Raspberry and Mulberry Pie. Lettuce is still doing well but the Radish bolted. Onions still growing. The Cabbage is doing well . Picked 2 Zip Lock baggies of Raspberries. Had a couple more Yellow Cherry Tomatoes. We have a bumper crop of Cherries. Eating the Mulberries right off the tree. The Rose bush is almost done blooming. The Tiger Lilies and Milkweed are starting to bloom. The Celery is doing well .We have Green Beans doing well, about time to pick first bunch. We have allot of Pears on the 3 trees. We have Grapes and there is flowers on the Black Berries. We do have some Walnuts and Apricots.

July4th

It is a hot weekend, but normal for 4th of July. The first Purple Cauliflower was eaten no real taste difference. We had a few Apricots that had fallen from the tree, they are of the smaller type. The tart cherries eaten right off the tree as is the Mulberries. The bigger Cherries have not started to fall from the tree yet and the tree is way to tall to pick from, but there is allot. The Lettuce is still going but hard to keep it from bolting now. Had picked the first Pepper, put it in the burritos. All the Pepper plants are staying in the Greenhouse , they seem to do well there. Picked a bunch more Raspberries, and froze them. We have Beans and enough to pick this week. We have about 100 tomato plants in the garden now after rototilling under the turnips and radish as they had bolted. The cabbage is starting to form heads. Pears seem to be doing real well this year too. The Butterfly Gardens seem to be doing OK even with heat and little rain. The Celery is doing well because it is right by the outside faucet so it gets watered when ever I water the Greenhouse. The Rose is done blooming but is was a good come back from our 26 below winter a couple of years ago.

In the time when we need to stay at home, I'm a Gardener who knows that gardening can help a person in many ways from great satisfaction, to improving health, to lower blood pressure and stress, to bond with a child, to learn to grow your own food. In these times of staying home, gardening is pretty much un effected as you can have everything delivered to start growing a garden whether in the ground or in pots. I, like many other gardeners on the internet, I am here to help you to succeed. Let us know your question and maybe we can help you start or be a better gardener.
My Journals from last 7 years are there for you to learn from and sometimes the videos are funny & entertaining.

From my Journal
March 26th 2020

The spinach, onions, and variety of lettuces are up in the greenhouse. A Pansy that was brought in the greenhouse last fall with a tomato plant has survived, so that tells you how mild a winter we had where a Pansy in an unheated greenhouse was enough to keep it alive and well so it could keep on growing this spring. I got my yearly Pansy's (24) that I plant out to get some spring to the yard and get the neighbors some to look forward to, in staying home. Gardening is a activity that you can do without leaving home, everything can be delivered whether gardening in the ground or in pots. It is too wet in the garden yet to rototill it. The raised beds will be ready to plant as soon as we get a run of sunny day s..

April 7th

It was 76 degrees today and it was dry enough to Rototill the garden. Planted some Tomatoes, Peas, Lettuce and Spinach in the Greenhouse. The spinach onions and lettuce planted this Spring is 2 inches tall in the Greenhouse. I bought some Tomato plants also online and had them delivered and put them in the greenhouse. These will stay in the greenhouse to produce tomatoes early. Can't wait for the fruit trees to blossom. The Daffodils, Tulips and Grape Hyacinths are up in the Butterfly Garden and by the house. The Cactus (local to great lakes) is turning up to the sun. Put the Goldfish out back into the pond.

April 11th

Roto tilled the garden again and planted from seed, radish, turnips, beets, rutabaga, and spinach. Also planted onion sets.It is cool spring so far but the rain we will get will start them growing.

Oct 6th

It is warm start of Oct. but change is coming. I put some more tomato plants in the green house to extend the season. I canned some more peppers, 2 half pints. A few more tomatoes ripened and picked a bowl of green beans, and 2 bowls of kiefer pears, a little green so they will ripen in the house to eat as they ripen. Not enough to can yet but maybe next week. Put up some the Halloween decorations, one of our favorite holidays. We buy pumpkins because the amount of space they take up is better left to plants like tomatoes cabbage, etc that will give us the best bang for the bucks. We always plant some pumpkins just in case a perfect year but as this year as in Illinois, floods came. Collecting seeds like flower, tomato and bean seeds for next year. The celery is doing and will harvest just before a freeze for Thanksgiving. We have 4 or 5 good cabbages.

Will post the Halloween video when I get done decorating.

Sept 22nd

We got huge amounts of rain and flooded everything. The Kale likes it but the few tomato plants in the garden and raised bed are sitting in mud. The rain garden also is doing good. The rain garden is truly a stream bed this week. The pods on the Milkweed are big now. Had a few Figs off the Fig tree in the container. The Fig tree in the ground did not flower this year.

We still get 3 or 4 ripe tomatoes a week. The cabbage is growing well and we will get a few heads this year. We have two pumpkins growing, not very big. The kiefer pears are getting mature. The celery in the rain garden is doing good. Started to clean up some of the garden but this weekend got more rain. Got a bunch more peppers in the greenhouse, need to pick and can them. I moved more tomato plants in to the green house to extend the growing season. Flowers on one of the goji plants. Arthur Hillson

G arden Journal June16th

It is still cool for June . We picked the last of the radish which was one of the best years because of the the cool weather, they didn't bolt and lost only a few to bugs eating them. Picked some more spinach which hasn't bolted either. The onions are doing great as all the cool weather veggies are. One of the cauliflowers has a 3 inch head already.Tied up some of the tomato plants. The pea pods are forming on the peas. The carrots are coming up barely. Allot flowers on the tomato plants. The lettuce is thriving with this cool weather. The walnut trees are just starting to leaf out. The corn in greenhouse is two foot tall and in the garden only 4 inches tall. The asparagus is doing well in the greenhouse. The rock/rain garden and barrel garden are doing well in this cool weather. The Milkweed is thriving including the raised bed. The evergreens love this weather. The turnips are starting to get some size , marble size. Beans and cucumbers are finally coming up in quantity. Arthur Hillson http://havecompostwillgarden.com/

April 21st

Every Day is Earth Day to us as we are a green family and business. We should have spinach to eat in the green house by next weekend. I planted some more tomato seeds in the green house. The tomato seeds I planted before are about an inch tall. I transplanted the kale seedlings into 6 pac trays so I can give them away. No blossoms blooming on fruit trees yet. The Magnolia and Crabapples will probably start blooming this week. Some seedlings just popping up in the garden, can't identifying them yet. Everything survived the snow and it was gone by Tuesday. A bird built a nest on top of the motion sensor for the porch light, this is different. Everything is growing nicely in the greenhouse. The barrel flower garden is starting to bloom, tulips soon to bloom too, Daffodils next. Life signs in the Rock/Rain garden. The raspberries, gooseberries and acaci berry are coming to life.

My seeds came in the mail. It has been once again a strange winter a little early for seed starting, March is coming in like a Lion. Today March 4th the high will be 8 degrees and forecast for the next 2 weeks is at or below 32 degrees. Needless to say planting the cold weather seeds in the green house will be delayed about 2 weeks. The winter is not letting go. Some fun news the fig tree I bring in every year has leafed out and now has little figs on it. The one planted in the ground outside probably won't show any sign of life until the last week in May.

Reading Seed Catalogs as it is strange weather in January. I ordered seeds early so I can get what I want in case they run out. I also have all the seeds I saved from last fall. I am saving Paper Towel and T.P. tubes to use for my seed starts in Feb.. In late Feb.. I can put them out in the Green House. I cut them in one and half segments put seed starting soil in them and put 2 seeds in each tube. The tubes fade away in the soil over time.

Feb.. 4th

My seeds came in the mail. It has been once again a strange winter it got down to 23 below zero last Thursday with 12 inches of snow on the ground and went up to 47 degrees today. This is a little early for seed starting, another week or so for cold weather seeds like lettuce, kale, cabbage etc.The snow is almost gone but it is feb.

It is getting more like summer finally tomato plants are doing well the whole garden is growing better . I put up the tomato sticks . We had some more cherry tomatoes from the plant we had in the greenhouse that took off producing right away. We got some rain so it is helping but this coming weekend very hot. I moved some more of the Milkweed that had sent out runners to the raised garden. The corn in the greenhouse is growing well already a foot tall. The pumpkin and squash seeds are coming up now that is warm .The fruit trees are doing very good so far. Picked up a reduced apple tree and planted it. The cactus is responding well with the hot weather. Planted out a bunch more of the tomato
plants I grew from seed all over the yard. Arthur Hillson http://havecompostwillgarden.com/
