Our Story
Fern Avenue Community Garden is a organic space leased from the Unley Council. “Fernie” is located at 18-20 Fern Avenue in Fullarton and was the original site of the Fullarton Jam Factory which ceased operation in ---- however some of the original fruit trees still thrive within the garden. The features of the garden are the strawbale house powered only by solar panels, 35 garden plots including raised beds, a wood fire oven, composting toilet, fruit orchard and free range chickens who provide our gardeners with eggs.
Members of the public who are interested in viewing the garden are welcome any time the Fern Avenue gate is unchained. Some of our gardeners like to spend time maintaining our beautiful space and you will find them working hard in the garden on Thursdays mornings between 9.00am to 12 noon and visitors are welcome to visit during this time. New volunteers at any time if you love to get your hands dirty or have if you a skill that could be taught or shared with our gardeners please talk to a gardener who will point you in the right direction. There are approximately 35 garden plots available for rent by residents of the Unley Council area. All plots are currently being rented and the waiting list for plots is growing.
